Wow, Jarvis, Selles must not have rated him at all!! Not even a loan but a permanent. Kinda surprised by that.

I think people think he's still a youngster, but Kamara, Hughes, Puerta, Zambrano, Burstow and Vaughan are all younger, and deemed closer to the first team and he needs to go and play for his career.

The fact he's not got on the pitch over Xmas tells it's own story.

3 1/2 years is decent security for him also.

Good luck to the lad.

This is our 25-man squad for what it's worth (i.e. anyone shifted on from here frees up a spot for a signing)

Chris Bedia, Finley Burns, Lewie Coyle, Cody Drameh, Ryan Giles, Matty Jacob, Will Jarvis, Alfie Jones, Ryan Longman, Sean McLoughlin, Marvin Mehlem, Liam Millar, Abdulkadir Omur, Kasey Palmer, Ivor Pandur, Gustavo Puerta, Anthony Racioppi, Carl Rushworth, Dogukan Sinik, Regan Slater, Andy Smith, Oscar Zambrano, Alzate, Pedro.

Surely looking at that we de-register Belloumi, Millar and Zambrano, we've shifted Jarvis and Mehlem, Racciopi surely goes out on loan, Bedia and Burns loans terminated, and if we get Boly in we shift Smith out on loan too. Omur the other one who could be off. That's potentially 10 changes to the squad which is wild.

EDIT: Forgot Longman too, that's 11. So maybe Omur does end up staying? And Smith?

Burns looks to be liked by Selles. Subbed on everytime recently, made a cracking header late on against Leeds. Really odd one because he’s clearly a very technical player, very slow though

Yeah I don't think we need to free up as many spots as we seemingly could, we just have to be mindful of the number of loans in the squad. If the striker and Boly are going to be loans, with Rushworth, Puerta and Burns also in the squad, there's not much other scope for a loan.

Rumours that Puerta’s loan will automatically convert after so many appearances. Can only imagine Burns is eventually going back as well

We've Slater/Puerta doing a decent job there at the moment - my concern over squad size comes mainly down to cost, if correct Omur is joint top earner, and paying top dollar for someone to be 3rd choice is criminal

Even regardless of his wage, having someone as talented as Ömür being third choice is criminal. We and he really should be able to find a way of making him effective in this team. I suppose if not then he should go, but I'd be reluctant to admit defeat on it because he's clearly such a good player.

Its bizarre that he gets played on the wing despite him never having a good game there. Same with Burstow although he just seems to be grateful to be starting.

He played on the wing a lot under Rosenior. I'm not sure it's as big a deal as people think.

Yeah, he’s contracted until 2027. The player and manager need to find a way to make it click. We can’t keep buying and selling creative playmakers at a loss. We’re spunking money up the wall doing so. Also, Ömür was signed with a 50% sell-on clause so even if we do sell him, Trabzonspor get half of whatever profit we sell him for. I think it was £2.5 million + another £2.5 million if promoted + the 50% sell-on.

Ömür is a decent player, he just needs to be consistent. Should really be the first name on the team sheet and someone to build a team around. I thought Mehlem was decent as well but think he’s played his last game for us. Palmer blows hot and cold and Crooks seems like a short-term thinking signing for this season alone.

Good point about his contract. Also Syd will know better but I think with player amortisation costs spread over the length of their contract, Ömür leaving now would actually cause us a net loss this financial year in FFP terms because you lose the right to spread the cost when they leave the club. So I think letting him go permanently might be a no-go for that reason.

He was just a weird one to sign on loan as I said at the time.

From the little we've seen, I think he'll go on to be a good Championship centre half but it's going to take time and unless loanees can improve us immediately, they don't get time or opportunities to play. It's where the loan system is completely flawed and makes little sense.

I'd still take him in a heartbeat permanently.

It depends what we sell him for but yeah it's a bit quirky like that. If we spent 2.5m on him on a 3.5 year deal last Jan, 700k would have hit our books last year (I don't know if it gets pro rata'd), then 700k this year, meaning his book value is 1.1m, so if we sell him for anything more than that we actually book a profit on him, even though it's a 'loss' if we sold him for, say, 1.5m. I don't know how that works with sell on when it's only a PSR profit not a real profit.
