Ah whey. Execution both ends killed us. Nice to see AA and Aleksic get a game. Looks like it won’t be too costly in the short term. Feel for Mayenda, who is already being permanently written off on the back of the last few days.

Not permanently at all. His technical ability is lacking and his misses have cost us points. We can not forget short term and success in place for player development pathways. It isn't the under 21s where results don't matter. It's the big leagues.

We are lacking a touch of depth IMO and Mayenda and such shouldn't be asked to start as many games.

It's mad watching him though. He does none of the basics right. None.

If you can't see the quality then I worry we will never meet your expectations.

We hit the post 2 or 3 times, their keeper saved 2 or 3 great shots, we should have had at least 1 penalty.
We were playing Stoke City who’re absolutely ****e. We’ve drawn a blank. We show glimpses of individual quality but I don’t see enough where I think ‘we’ll batter a team’. If you believe that to be wrong then keep dreaming mate.

I’ve just posted the shot numbers and it shows the complete opposite of your last statement

I dont know why people are getting upset. We are where we are, where we deserve to be. We suddenly have found ourselves with better players than the majority of the teams in this league. We have not been outplayed this season. I dont think we will get top 2, three of the teams are a canny bit better than us, i hope we get the playoffs, if not, we can try again next season. Many were anticipating a bottom half finish/relegation fight this season. Where we find ourselves at the moment is still a bonus for me.
I stand by my preseason view: first two seasons up we were a top 10 squad. First season we got lucky, second season we got unlucky (and messed up as well). This season we’re a top 6 squad and with a bit of good luck we may end up top 2 (or bad luck sees us miss out). I’d say playoffs is a par performance depending on context. Need to hold our nerve and keep moving forward. January will be a tough window and there are no magic bullets available.

This is today.
first half:

17’ Jobe 0.03 xG inside the box - blocked
29’ Milan 0.02 xG outside the box - saved
32’ AA 0.03 xG outside - saved
34’ Wilson 0.20 xG inside - saved
39’ AA 0.02 xG inside - saved
40’ Trai 0.03 xG inside - saved
42’ Mayenda 0.08 xG inside - blocked
42’ Mepham 0.19 xG inside - blocked (pen?)
45’ AA 0.05 xG inside - missed

total xG - 0.65. 7 shots inside the box

second half:

47’ Cirkin 0.07 xG inside - blocked
50’ Cirkin 0.04 xG inside - blocked
66’ AA 0.05 xG inside - blocked
73’ Mayenda 0.36 xG inside - miss
76’ Neil 0.01 xG outside - blocked
78’ Jobe 0.05 xG inside - miss
82’ Roberts 0.04 xG inside - blocked
82’ Aji 0.04 xG inside - miss
83’ AA 0.05 xG inside - saved
89’ Wilson 0.04 xG inside - miss
90’ AA 0.03 xG inside - miss
90’ Trai 0.58 xG inside - miss (offside)
90+5’ Mepham 0.14 xG inside - saved

total xG 1.5. 12 shots inside the box

Total xG overall - 2.15. 19 shots inside the box

22 shots average xG of 0.09. Remove Humes for offside

it’s 1.57 xG with an average of 0.07 per shot

only chances were mayendas and Isidors toe poke first half where the keeper made a great save.

we’re not creating any clear chances the numbers back that up we’re just shooting on sight in half chances

The numbers don’t back it up though because what’s to say player X shot because player Y wasn’t moving to create any space for the pass? To say we’ve created nout in an away fixture where we’ve had 19 shots in the box, 12 corners, hit the woodwork twice.. come on man. How much do you need to create to score?

This squad and head coach would be doing extremely well to get a play-off spot, imo.

It’s been like this since game one. We don’t create for a centre forward

even Wilson’s chance he’s had to snatch at it quick because it bounced to him and that’s all he got for 90 minutes

this was always going to happen as much as people want to slate xG
Yep and it's catching up to us now. We were the most clinical team in the league for a while but I doubt we are now. Scoring as much as we were from such poor opportunities wasn't sustainable

I will as we where bar far the better team today imo. How many times did they threaten? Did they force a save? Or hit the post/bar?

No doubt tonight will be full of people moaning we didn't win, but as disappointed as I am, I saw enough to see it will come

Why not. We have some serious money in reserve from the sale of our best player. If we are serious we should back RLB and push on.

We’ve just lost to an awful side, without scoring. I certainly haven’t seen enough to believe ‘it’ll come’.

The shot number shows nothing.

the quality of the chance is were shooting at a box crowded with defenders. That’s usually because you’re not quick enough to create a chance and the opposition is in defence

According to my eyes we git the post at least twice, their keeper also saved at least 2 goal bount shots.

Guess I need new eyes
We hit the post once I can remember when their lad deflected a cross onto the post.

the keeper made 2 saves from humes and AA that had to be seriously special shots to go in

Because magic bullets don’t exist. There is no signing that safc can make that guarantees promotion. We should aim to improve where we can. But any signing we make - particularly one for big money - needs to make sense for us short and long term.

Which six squads and coaches are better than us?
Sheff United, Leeds and Burnley for starters

Not too sure after that. Boro’s squad is possibly better for this level - they’ve certainly got more/better goal threats

I’d be delighted with a play-off place, as I’ve said from fixture 1 this season.

Their keeper made at least 4 or 5 saves l, that if Patto had made them we would be singing his praises.

However we lost, emotions are running high and it's time to bow out
