He was the weak link in the squad last season, he probably made the most key mistakes out of them all. He was also statistically the 2nd worst goalkeeper in the division, with a goals conceded > xG faced ratio of -10.7, which is very poor. The Southampton keeper was the worst one in that regard on -11.9, and he is well known to concede **** goals too. Third worst was Begovic on -7.9. The fourth worst had -4.9, so using that as an indicator he was more than twice as bad as the fourth worst keeper in the division, out of a total of 51 to have played a full 90 minutes. More than twice as bad as the 47/51 placed keeper. He was ****e, and he cost us both goals and points.
Can’t argue with any of that, although I’d say he was bang average rather than ****e. The OP stated almost as fact that he conceded “many soft goals” that cost us points and a play off place. I asked him to back that up and he hasn’t, nor has anyone else. I don’t dispute he let some poor goals in, I don’t dispute that some points were lost because of that. To suggest that they were the only reason we didn’t make the play offs is plainly incorrect.
Last Christmas We had Rosie in charge But the very next May You took him away This year We’re all full of tears So please will you sack Tim Walter... https://x.com/hcafcboothferry/status/1860395458675233138 The PheasenXs are revolting...
He let at least one soft goal in v Boro at home. It was Boro away where he made a late triple save that keep him between the sticks for the rest of the season
Allsop was not the only reason we missed out last season, but his constantly being beaten at his near post was a major factor in us not making the play offs. Me, @HCAFCHangout and @Aminyapusi have mentioned games where his cock ups cost us up to 11 points. To counter that though, you rightly point to 2 missed penalties against Watford - one home, one away - which would have swung things our way despite his ineptitude. Why are we talking about last season anyway? It's been and gone and we are where we are -in deep sh!te. We need rid of Wally asap Wally Out
Boro home - beaten at near post Stoke home - shot through his arms QPR away - at fault for a goal WBA away - gave the ball away with poor distribution. that’s just from memory, he was a hologram in many other games too. Can’t remember his “world class” distribution winning us many other games either.
I remember him pinging the ball up to allsop against stoke for one of the goals and hitting Philogene on the run a lot, delap in behind too. He wasn't the best keeper we've had but I'm still not convinced him v Pandur was the reason we didn't make play off's, it was delap and Philogene injuries.
Why the heck are people still arguing the toss over Allsop v Pandur etc. it's gone. Move on. Today's question is whether or not, or at least to what degree, is our abysmal form down to Walter Vs being stitched up by being handed a squad bereft of goal scoring capability when his system depends on outscoring the opposition.
A squad where our starting 11 will have on average a proven capability of about 30 goals a season in it. It explains a lot. Not exonerating Walter but...
I agree re Pandur v Allsop but I do think Allsop cost us the playoffs as much as those injuries did. He cost us more points than the gap between Norwich for sure. He would’ve gotten away with it had we not had Delap’s injury for example but he was a major weakness for us and cost us too many
I think the biggest thing with Walter now is, we are clearly improving, but, he’s just being so unlikeable and hard to connect with people will just ignore it. And tbh rightly so
It's true he isn't helping himself and isn't endearing himself to fans, but how are we improving? Our form could hardly be any worse. And back to the point, where are the goals (from across the team) going to come from? We simply don't have that 'capability' within and across the squad.
Our form could be a lot worse Our last 8: Won 0 Drawn 3 Lost 5 Scored 4 Conceded 12 That could easily have been Won 0 Drawn 0 Lost 8 Scored 0 Conceded 12 We have also kept a clean sheet this season. Not many other clubs in England have achieved that.
