There's an elephant in the room about the Saudis that the mags don't want to acknowledge. The fact is they're rich enough that if they lose interest or things don't go to plan, they don't have to sell. It's not like Ashley or others where the mags can protest and make it a diminished asset by causing loss of revenue etc. The Saudis are rich enough for it not even to be noticed and would only get rid on their terms. So, in effect the mags are stuck on the Saudis whim. If the Saudis pull the plug there's naff all they can do about it, mock funerals and badly spelled banners won't help. Probably short of being a worthless, nuisance asset for the Saudis to get rid, they're stuck, but then if that's the case there might be very few people even bothered about them or that they're far enough down the league pyramid for many yo notice.

Interesting?

That's all very well put.

The Saudis are like a wealthy man with dozens of expensive suits ...

... Newcastle clearly aren't flavour of the month and just gathering dust in the wardrobe.

They might be taken out, at some point, dusted off and tried on for size.

But they're never going to be a favourite or worn every week.

They've sold their soul to get nowhere and now daren't even complain <doh>

Sounds like it's a complete **** show behind the scenes - can't wait for it to come all out in public!

Was talking to a mag last weekend at the grandsons footy match and he wasn't happy. He said that they needed a right winger and striker in the summer and didn't get anyone in and now it's biting them on the arse - I tried hard not to snigger!
They’re desperate for an upgrade at RW but they did sign a striker (Osula from Sheffield United) who’s nowhere near ready for regular PL football

Their summer window was hilarious.

I think we have to be a bit careful. The Saudis certainly have money to burn, but they're not fools. A £500m loss in the Mags wouldn't even touch their back pocket, but they're focussing on a strategy, which they think will be to their benefit in the long term. Bailing out of the Mags, for example, would affect the confidence and trust in which they might be held for other deals elsewhere. They won't want that.

Saudi investment fund is ‘scaling back its overseas investments’

Imagine selling your soul for nothing. Painful.

Charlie Chaplin couldn’t have done a better job at painting himself into a corner tbh.

They made such a song and dance, literally, about the Saudis buying the club, that they can’t complain now without looking even stupider … they daren’t upset their masters in case they reign things back even more … they’re worse off than under Ashley but can’t protest about their owner’s corruption because that would mean accepting everything that they denied.

Seriously, dancing for the cameras with tea towels on their heads …

… then putting them back in the kitchen drawer when their masters told them off <doh>

FFS lads, you’re from the NE … have some pride.

My brother is a mag but also a very politically/socially conscious person. When they were taken over he was happy to put all his morals in the bin for the sake of promised riches. I told him they (the fans) would find themselves trapped on the wrong side of history. That didn't matter though because they were going to win the lot apparently. Pleased to see it's going well for them :emoticon-0140-rofl:

I have a mate, very educated and exceptional company, ( particularly to an oik such as me!) who is so disinterested in football that he once asked me about the F A cup, "Do they still do that?"

He's probably the most informed person I know, especially in geo political matters if it can be put like that. This business with Saudi buying that lot tickled him a while ago and he sort of looked into it and took notice on my account.

He was never persuaded by the big drums that were banging and said that it was probably a medium term involvement , partly to do with attracting the WC in 2034, and partly washing their bloodied name a bit.

He said to me around early September that these Profit rules don't just stop you from spending money. They are an excuse not to do so. As I say, football leaves him cold, but with other stuff, he's right way more often than he's wrong

Build them a new ground (say about 60k+ seats £600+ million valuation), but be thr owner. Rent it to the mags, say £8 - 10 million a year and you've got a nice little asset there. Flog the mags and you still own the ground and gave a regular revenue stream coming in maintaining the asset with our the costs of running the club.

They wanted a load of land in NE1. They got it.

They give not a single **** about the football team, canny vessel for them to advertise their companies on the shirt front and sleeve, the stadium and even the Stack out front (on some of that land…)

They aren’t considering ‘leaving St James due to restrictions with development’, they want the ****ing land it’s on, which the club don’t even own of course.

Easy bought if there’s no stadium on it mind.
