Now that we’ve had a bit of a beating with Ivan in goal, will we see Rushworth in goal, next time out? I don’t believe Rushworth was signed as a sub. Any thoughts?
No, not only has Pandur been great and looks on track to win MotM for that game, but he's our keeper and Rushworth isn't.
I said at the time when we were linked with Rushworth that it would be a pointless signing and a waste of time. Despite his rocky pre-season, I kept faith in Pandur as I thought he would come good. Incredible shot-stopper and quite composed with his feet too, which he will keep improving on the more he plays. Racioppi would’ve been decent cover. Rushworth was another ‘kid in a sweet shop’ signing by Acun. He’s a decent keeper but we didn’t need him.
I would expect to see Rushworth start. We will concede a few goals that will have been as good as un preventable to him, but he’ll get blamed for them all anyway. Then he’ll eventually be dropped again for Pandur and go back home after Christmas. This is my expectation.
I know acun **** on allsop but it also placed a lot of pressure on pandur and he was nervous pre season but you could still see he. Was coming good He’s got a bit of cocky ness about him which is good and getting better and better To even think of dropping him now is madness
Rushworth will surely come in at some point, it's a question of when. He is a proven ball-playing keeper who can supposedly add another dimension to our in possession play with his long passes mixed in with the shorter stuff. He specifically mentioned in his welcome interview that he'd been asked to bring this which I think is significant. I don't think Pandur ever really makes long passes. Yes he's in form, but much as people don't like it there is more to a goalkeepers game than saving shots nowadays, particularly in teams like ours, as we were told about Walter from day one.
It’s all well saying that but if it wasn’t for Pandur saving shots we’d currently be on about 0 points. A goalkeeper is there to stop shots going in.
Really not sure why some seem so keen to see our most on form and arguably player of the season so far replaced. He's a top top GK who is also our player. He should be our #1. Rushworth will hopefully be sent back in Jan and be replaced by a better use of a loan spot.
All depends on how good Rushworth actually is. If he's a really good shot stopper (and at the other basics) and is really good with his feet then hopefully we get to see him. Good learning & competition for Pandur. It's Racioppi I'd feel for. or should we? Maybe it's just that we're really not used to having serious back ups throughout our squad?
Wasn't there talk of a financial penalty if Rushworth doesn't play? I agree that Pandur has been much better than expected (currently has the second spot on this forum's MotM poll. Pandur: 3 first places 1 second place 2 third places. Total points 20 Coyle: 3 first places 3 second place 1 third place. Total points 25). There's no way Pandur deserves to be dropped and I don't think he should be. However, just to play devil's advocate for a moment: Rushworth is proven to be outstanding at our level. His ability with the ball at his feet may improve our attacking. We are currently paying him to do nowt and he's taking up a valuable loan spot. Is there an argument for playing him before too long, in order to see if the hype is true. Yes Pandur is good, but Rushworth might make us better. You don't know if you don't try.
He also might make us worse, a player on form as good as pandur shouldn't be dropped just because someone else of the bench is potentially decent
He's done very well, especially recently, and that's probably delayed Rushworth's introduction to the team. But at the risk of going round in circles, modern managers including Tim Walter want more than shot-stopping, and there is some evidence to suggest that the plan is to use Rushworth for his passing ability. We've no way to know if it's the right call but I do think if you want a manager with a specific style and the entertainment and goals it supposedly brings, you do have to support him with the freedom to play who he wants to achieve it. You can't say yeah we want the goals and the entertainment but we don't want a ball-playing keeper, because that's part of how he thinks he can achieve it. For the time being we may well stick with Pandur anyway. The one outcome I dread is that Rushworth comes in and then is on a hiding to nothing all season because of the circumstances of him replacing Pandur. Politically it'll be a difficult change to make now that Pandur is in and doing well. I think if all the keepers had been here from day 1 of pre-season Pandur would probably have been third choice.
To much, it was a totally wasted knee jerk signing that wasn't and isn't needed. Hopefully he goes back in Jan and the loan spot/money can be invested better elsewhere
