actually in the case of bloody Sunday the first gunfire came from a 2 man "Official" IRA sniper team and the first fatal casualty was shot by members of Royal Green jackets however the murders were committed by Paras .

Croke Park was pure revenge hatred - the IRA had assassinated a number of British intelligence agents whose cover was blown ... so the Black & Tans opened fire on the crowd at a Gaelic football game at a packed Croke Park - 14 or 16 were killed but over 60 were injured ...

someone should make a song about it .

For the 86th time, there is absolutely no comparison between Israel fighting Iran on multiple fronts against militia groups who want to wipe Jews from the Earth with Northern Ireland 50 years ago

For the 87th time, the Irish Rebellion of 1916 ended British Occupation of Ireland - not all Palestinians want to see Israel destroyed but I suspect all want to see the end of illegal occupation and settlements in the West Bank (and the restoration of Gaza from the ground zero it has been turned into) if you don't think there is any comparison there (with the former) then you are either plain stupid or just unapologetically bigoted ...

'
<laugh> 'seeking' ... Hamas seeking the destruction of Israel with some Rockets, RPGs and AK47s ...

Head wobble time ... Israel has Iron Dome, sophisticated missile and Aircraft capability, one of the most modern and well equipped (heavy armoury) armies in the world ... and is backed almost unconditionally by the USA ...

If you receive multiple death threats from someone over many months and one night they break into your house with a machete and come at you and your wife shouting "I'm going to kill you", and you have a gun in your bedside drawer, are you honestly not going to use it because a gun is more deadly than a machete and you feel sorry for the bloke?

Good luck to you mate, I won't bother sending condolences or flowers.

There is a direct correlation between a group's aims and its methods.
If a group's aim is total annihilation, this will lead to the methods we all saw on Oct 7th. Mutilation, kidnap, rape, massacre and torture.

Difference between Hamas and the IRA:
- The IRA wanted to remove British political rule from all of Ireland. It did not seek the destruction of all of Britain.
- Hamas seeks the destruction of all of Israel, not just the removal of its political rule from the West Bank and its control over Gaza.

Difference between Hezbollah and the IRA:
- The IRA was comprised of ethnic Irish with legitimate territorial claims over the region it disputed, representing and acting on the interests of other ethnic Irish living in that same region.
- Hezbollah is not ethnically Palestinian, has no legitimate territorial claims, and represents and acts on the interests of a government in a region 1050 miles away.

These differences cannot be that difficult to comprehend.

A letter has been leaked from the Irish president to the Iran president talking about starting nuclear talks.

Dirty fenian bastards. Never ever trust the Irish.

Yeah there isn’t any whatsoever. The only bit I can’t comprehend is how incredibly naive and unknowledgeable you are about Palestine despite your undying support for them. They won’t thank you for it and they’d be celebrating if you died in a terror attack.

So what's your solution for Palestine then Einstein? - other than total subjugation to foreign rule?

err the Easter rebellion was a total failure and the survivors got jeered and spat as they were marched through Dublin . Sentiment then changed after we executed all but one of the designated leaders of the rebellion. The peace settlement you are referring to came in 1923 and promptly led to the Irish Civil war .
Ardent Republicans will argue that the occupation continues in the six counties

Sure the English 'won' ... that's why Ireland is an independent country ...

My Great Grandfather came over from Tipperary and my maternal Grandmother was a Whelan - but I'll bow to your superior knowledge on Irish history and culture ... <laugh>

The British rule of most of the island of Ireland ended in 1923 as i said though there was the exception of the treaty ports .

Wipe out Hamas, implement a puppet government focussed on improving the lives of ordinary Palestinians over killing Jews. If they can prove themselves capable of not trying to wipe out Jews for a decade or so then consider moves towards a proper state. Deport keffiyeh-clad Europeans to help with the re-build. Start educating people to not be groomed by social media showing them scenes from Syria five years ago pretending to be Palestine yesterday.

I’m quite comfortable with the total subjugation to foreign rule. Why let a dangerous dog roam around the park?

So Gaza is in pristine fettle and the 2 million Palestinians previously displaced by the Israeli invasion can just return to their homes?

... and you think I'm the naive delusional one <laugh>

Here's my solution and it's quite simple - Israel just ****s off from any territory it is not entitled to be in under International Law ... then gets itself around a UN led negotiating table to iron out a deal that ensures sovereignty for both Israel and 'Palestine' ... the UN then sends in an International Peace Keeping force for however long it takes to achieve a lasting peace ...

There will inevitably be problems initially but hopefully not as much carnage and death of innocents as there has been ... and will continue to be without an International led initiative ...

Who assumes the mandate of governance once sovereignty is granted to Palestine and how/by what process are they granted that power?

In fact, who even negotiates on behalf of Palestine to secure sovereignty in the first place? Or is it granted unilaterally and amorphously, as many western countries now (stupidly) believe is sensible?

That I can't answer - hopefully a Palestinian leader with no ties to Hamas or terrorism emerges - perhaps from exile - I don't think 'ordinary Gazans' are in any doubt about Israeli destructive capability now and I suspect the vast majority just want a life free of wanton death and destruction - I accept that there will still be some fanatics and there will be a generation (or more) of angry young men given what has happened- but the prospect of their own Homeland would go some way to diluting that ... the alternative is horribly depressing ... it's a never ending war that can never be won ...
