Regarding how long a manager should get, I'd typically say quite a long time. Couple of windows at least. I don't like the constant changing of managers in modern football. However, it obviously has to allow for the state of things. When you're dropping like a stone and the manager has clearly lost control then they have to go. No one would argue that Shota, Slutsky, Parkinson or Molby should've had more time even though none of them got very long at all. Realistically we couldn't afford to let them have more time. In all of those cases, sacking them turned things around quite quickly. Walter isn't quite at that stage yet where it's unavoidable but I think there are strong signs of it already. If and when we do sack him, it'll be a bad look having sacked four managers in less than three years. But in that scenario, sacking Walter (and Shota previously) isn't the bad part. It's the McCann and Rosenior ones that were avoidable.
But no one's saying "Wow well if Baz isn't impressed then he must be right" it's just someone who is traditionally quite a happy clapper sycophant for Acun's regime is also being critical of Walter so it's noteworthy.
Hey? Wasn't everyone saying Traore was unhappy because LR made him vomit in training and was working them too hard? I just scratch my head sometimes at the total re-writing of history under LR. The dressing room was happier under LR because he brought in players that complemented each other, had working relationships already, and he was a people manager that got the best out of previously underperforming players. That's typically the sort of manager that succeeds in modern football.
I’ve no problem with him challenging results or reporting on fans opinions. But he has no footballing qualifications whatsoever to speak as a pundit whether that’s tactics or passages of play. The little bit of twitter fame has gone to his head and he thinks he’s Gary linekar.
I think some people have a really weird obsession with putting Baz down. Maybe its because he's a Forrest fan and people don't think he should be able to be even the tinniest bit critical about the club. Most (if any) of the people on the City , or Championship, podcasts don't have football "qualifications" but constantly comment on passages of play, tactics and formations. Loads of people on here do exactly the same. Since when do you need a coaching badge to be allowed to talk about football?
It's not even that, it's just a dislike of any and all media. I see it all the time even here in Aus about the Aussie Rules media. "Oh such and such journo gave his rankings and didn't have us first he's so biased!" who the **** cares where he had us on an imaginary ranking of teams he rates to win the comp? Why get so worked up?
Agree with Kalman here. Walter won't change his philosophy, but he's doomed to fail because there are few goals in our team. I think we would be better set up to catch teams on the break as we have a bit of pace on the wings now. I think there will be other teams who cant score as well but we are ( or should be)already in a survival mode
Sacking Walter will in my opinion be an admission of fault on behalf of the brain team for not getting the players this manager needs. Walter needs to change in order to suit the players he has rather than trying to throw two sixes with only one die
Until they've all played and been given a bit of time it's impossible to say if we have the players the manager needs. It's 5 games into the season and most of the new players have barely registered any minutes for us, if any. Our back 4 where all the play starts from is currently weaker than last season's as well. The only factor I think anyone can reasonably criticise right now is the number of new recruits that came in so late. Otherwise all we can and should be doing is giving it time. People predicted we'd get **** all from the first bunch of games. We're pretty much at that point, and although it was expected, people are still sharpening their knives as if we should be doing better. The questions start getting asked from me in another month or so, depending on player availability and other factors that might come about. If the football still looks hopeless once the team have all bedded in and spent time together then fair enough. I say 'hopeless', I can see positives to be honest - we just need to cut out individual errors and start becoming more clinical I front of goal. We stretch the play very effectively at times. The corners are dire though, admittedly. I just find it weird that many posters who backed the last manager to the hilt are so quick to turn on this one. This has been bubbling along from about 2 games into the season if we're honest and without looking at ulterior motives it doesn't make sense.
That’s just bollocks though Syd, you aren’t widely recognised for your ability to create successful attacking football and then lose it over night. I know you’ve made your mind up on him but the context is as clear as day it’s not defence that’s got us hamstrung right now it’s our inability to score
It’s not the point tally that’s the issue. Many on here are saying that we need a win and a draw from the next few games, which is true, but we don’t even look like scoring, let alone winning. If we’d drawn 2-2 or lost 3-2 it would feel like we just need to make some tweaks to turn it around, but it feels like we need much more to fall in to place than that.
Ultimately, Rosie lost his job because he wouldn’t change his philosophy. You’re not telling me that there weren’t conversations between Acun/Tan and him that didn’t make the suggestion that a slight shift in tactics would be all that it would take to allow him more time. Most of the anti LR rhetoric on here is based on the poor performances at home, particularly against lower opposition and I’m sure most of those people would have been far less judgmental regarding the failure to make the playoffs if those performances had been more dynamic.
People keep saying he ‘failed’ in Germany as well. He’s the only Hamburg manager to reach the play-offs since they got relegated and he did it twice in back-to-back seasons. It’s like saying Corberán is a failure because he reached the play-offs with Huddersfield and West Brom but didn’t get promoted either time.
I'm saying what the implications of him being sacked quickly are. He hasn't been sacked yet. I haven't made my mind up but may well do after stoke. Our defence is rubbish, you can't watch our games with two eyes open and say otherwise. We've been incredibly lucky to concede as few as we have.
