I feel like this is a dangerous fixture, the fanbase seems very confident on this one and those can be the ones that bite you on the arse, of course I want to win but I always remember the mantra that a point away in the Championship is never a bad result.

This is true, but I think if we're going to be serious contenders for top 2, we don't want to be dropping points against the worser teams in the division.

Thanks again RTB <applause> great to have the MDT back gone for a win regardless of the line-up, a draw would be a disappointment but not too painful , as I quite like Plymouth Argyle and the wayne.

After traipsing around watching us play badly last season there's no way I'm going into this game thinking I shouldn't be excited or thinking that we can't beat them. It's irrelevant how carried away the fans are, in fact it makes the support better, especially away from home ...

... there's no such thing as jinxes or 'typical Sunderland' and the percentage of former players who score against us is very low.

So balls to going down there with trepidation, I can't f*cking wait <cheers>

RLB:
  • Not all new players were available during the international break
  • We have a massive month with many interesting games
  • We have 22-23 players ready to play, we need to find a balance, now it is another step
  • It's an opportunity, a restart for all players with a chance to play
  • Some players are playing more than others but they will have an opportunity during the season
  • Dan Neil - it's a good problem for me, we have 5 or 6 that could start, we can change during games to maintain same level
  • Teams are still looking at their shape we need to focus on ourselves
  • Rooney - interesting to meet with this type of manager but he's not involved on the pitch
  • Start - it's a collective success, we have been working together for 11 weeks - its just the start, we have a long journey
  • It's another game with another problem, we start with confidence but we need to deserve a win
  • I'm still learning about Sunderland, the fans the identity, the fans are very passionate and give us energy on the pitch
  • We started with one shape in possession and another when out of possession but we can adapt that as the players learn

RLB is fascinating to listen to. Spoke of some elements of the ‘game model’ being used more for than others for certain fixtures - dealing with in-game scenarios as opposed to focussing a great deal on the specifics of the opposition. He also spoke of introducing more complexities to our shape now that the team have mastered the basics. Really interesting.

Don’t normally bother with managers press conferences as it’s usually just full of cliches and standard template answers, could listen to Regis all day

Glad to see this pop up RTB, another Snorter of a thread as always.
Cant see anything but a comfortable win, be nice to see Roberts get off the mark as he is playing really well and I just think he needs a goal and he will fly ! I would keep the same team as Pompey, Dan is back but he needs to learn from his mistakes not keep making them ! Maybe a few games on the bench will push it home. Rooney was one of my favourite players a few years back, he was a great player, dont think he makes a very good manager though.

1pm ..Press conference.

RLB impressed with the team especially at half time expressing their ideas to improve. No waiting for the coach to tell them. There's a good atmosphere. Good to see.

Agree. He really seems to know what he's doing. I'm more and more impressed with him. Interesting he talks about a squad of 22/23 players who he thinks are able to play at the required level, which would likely mean that Adil and Ba are in his plans.

The club has made recruiting 'intelligent' players one of their priorities. KS has mentioned that in the past. It does feel like at least part of the calamity of last season resulted from a feeling within the club that the players could cope with - and perhaps do with - more technical input. Glad that we seem to have that now. Good for these lads to be challenged. That's how they'll grow. Hopefully RLBs calmness continues when that challenge results in defeat. It'll make the players even more determined to learn and execute.
