Last time I felt semi confident about Sunderland and reliability and predicted a Sunderland win, Sunderland duly obliged and made me look a fool, and we were hammered by Bolton 6-0. That's why I'm always pessimistic with our results. I really hope we hammer Rooney, but I'm staying cautious at saying a 1-1 draw

I really think the way we press. We'll cause real damage to the poorer sides in the league. Their players shouldn't be able to cope with our press and give us the ball. Just need to hope we cam take advantage.

I always preface this by saying I don’t go to the games and only see what I see on the telly. But, from what I have seen, I think we should be good for the win. Other teams haven’t been able to work us out and the team itself is on a massive high at the moment. I can’t see anything other than a win for Sunderland against a club who on the basis of league position are struggling.
So I guess after that we’ll lose 0-5!!

I am optimistic and believe we will win, but Plymouth have been steadily improving and will be no pushover.
I still think we will have more than enough for them and will predict a 0-2.

Same with Portsmouth - we have pretty average record down there. Time to put it right

I think you're right and we'll clock up a big win against someone soon.

It was quite something to watch a coach like Danny Rohl visibly panicking and retreating to the Alamo at 4-0 down.

We've heard 'Olés' ringing out at three matches so far and that shows how much in control we've been ...

... at 3 or 4 nil up we're more used to worrying that conceding a goal could change everything <laugh>

At Portsmouth RLB was so confident of the result he started 'resting' players for the following game.

Of course we'll have games when it just doesn't click, we have a duff referee or individual errors ...

... but I believe there's a team spirit and the players are following a script, not just putting on an improv performance.

'Sunderland Head Coach Régis Le Bris and Club Captain Luke O’Nien have been nominated for the first set of Sky Bet Championship awards of the 2024-25 season.

Le Bris has been shortlisted for August’s Manager of the Month accolade while O’Nien has received a nomination for the league’s Player of the Month.

Last month saw Le Bris and his side produce a blistering start to the new season with a 100% record from four games after beating Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Portsmouth.

During that winning run, the Black Cats scored ten goals while conceding just once.

The Frenchman has been nominated for the award alongside Watford’s Tom Cleverley, West Brom’s Carlos Corberan and John Eustace of Blackburn Rovers.

Elsewhere, O’Nien’s performances in August caught the eye after he managed to score twice and contribute to three clean sheets in four league games.

The 29-year-old has been nominated for the award alongside Oxford United striker Mark Harris, West Brom frontman Josh Maja and Millwall forward Duncan Watmore.'

The winner of the awards will be announced on Friday 13th September.

O'Nien has been one of our most important, and consistent, players for us imo.

    HA'WAY THE LADS

    MACKEMS ATTACKEM

This is where we usually come unstuck. Beat a few decent teams and lose against a struggling one.

    Errrrrm
I don't think it's going to happen now though.
We look like the real deal.

    Errrrrm
I think we'll give a couple of teams a good pummeling along the way, and it could be against the Scouse necrophiliac.

This would be the game where previous versions of Sunderland would lose. Brilliant start against some tricky teams, then come unstuck against a weaker side.
Let's change that narrative and go into the Cleveland game on 15pts.

It’s worrying that I’m thinking we will win. I’m so used to thinking we ought to win and then we don’t.
When I think how we play at the moment. And the bench we’ve got. And the manager.
We have enough depth now to rest players. I’m liking where we are. :1980_boogie_down:

Not the walkover it looked this.

Seems Rooney has calmed a bit and is working well with them on shape and possession and they have improved a hell of a lot over a few games.

Of course they’ll be bang up for this as we are too of the league, but we are top for a reason.

Similar standard to Pompey and I expect a similar end result. I think they will start fast and be good if we do we need to see how we react to a bit of pressure, we have played all season with our slippers and dressing gowns on (credit to Reg).

    3-1 the Lads.

I feel like this is a dangerous fixture, the fanbase seems very confident on this one and those can be the ones that bite you on the arse, of course I want to win but I always remember the mantra that a point away in the Championship is never a bad result.
