Sensational from Dan Evans! 4-0 down and 15-40 down on his serve in the 5th set and he wins it 6-4! Longest US Open match in history at over 5 and a half hours!
I am taking full credit for his win. He looked down and out and I decided it was too late for me and went to bed. I am known to miss big come backs…I helped Andy Murray win Wimbledon.

Evans won next match in straight sets…had to as I’m sure he didn’t have another set in him at the end. Stretching and shaking his racquet hand…probably cramping. Played well.

Draper won easily and has a good chance as Alcaraz out to ???? Dutchman with name impossible to say and harder to spell <laugh>

A 10 second lead is pretty straight forward for an F1 driver to manage.

Tom, when everyone else is on new tyres, and you’re on 25 lap old tyres, and you’re not in the fastest car, it really isn’t. You know better than that. If that had been Lewis, you’d have had the tissues out.

Oh come on. Ferrari were fast this weekend. They were pretty much matching the McLaren's for pace so let's not use the "not in fastest car" narrative. Ferrari said themselves they expected to challenge at the front. It was a very good drive but brilliant? Not for me. Good strategy, good tyre management but he had help from Sainz as Piastri and Norris had to pass him. They were never going to catch Charles unless he made a mistake. The FIA need to make sure they weigh his car too!

Okay Tom, whatever. It was a brilliant drive, and the car isn’t the quickest (it’s got quicker, but the McLaren is still a way faster), but you know better than me, and pretty much all of the ex drivers who think it was a brilliant win. If you can’t see it, that’s with you mate.

BTW, Sainz actually had the better strategy and the newer tyres, but strangely he couldn’t make it work, so…

Yesterday, I think the fact that I found the race dull somewhat blinkered my view about Charles. I was being petty. Apologies.
