I look in ocassionally to see what's been said on GC - I see these constant titles where it's claimed (via twitter links) that people have been jailed for saying words to cops or other similar scenarios. So I did a random check on one the other day, and as I suspected it was total bullshite and being fed to people who are too lazy to check what really happened. It was quite clear in the sentencing that the person was sent down for what they did and NOT for what they said, albeit it a commentary feel of the language is naturally going to be put forward as evidence, but it still remained, the person was convicted of violence as well as encourraging violence, and that's why they went down. Thing is it only takes a few minutes to check the validity of these claims, yet people are quite happy to spend hours posting lies without any checks whatsoever to what really occurred. I dare say some of the policing was heavy handed, but tough shhite, you go looking for trouble I want the cops to hit back.
Yeah, there was a guy who got 18 months, I think for, according to some Twitter comments, “saying hurty words” to cops. In fact, having been front and centre at a riot, shoving his finger in cops faces and giving them the full “come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough” routine, he pled guilty to violent conduct.
