I reckon he was probably a lazy bloke as a player, last one to training and first one to leave. Going through the motions while there.

Bet he is even worse as a manager!

Doesn't need to be a pundit or a coach. Made obscene money in his career.

You're probably right mate.

Mind you he has a sour faced wife and four kids ...

... he's probably just glad to get out of the house.

Otherwise he'd be pulling his hair out <laugh>

Just imagine what he would’ve been like if he actually tried eh? Maybe he might have been selected for England more than he was, or possibly scored a few more goals.
Or won even more trophies haha, can’t knock his playing career at all, maybes he just doesn’t have the hunger for management

I know it sounds daft to say that about a player who achieved so much!

All a matter of opinion but I think despite the fact that he achieved so much in his career, he could have been on Messi or Robaldo levels. That 17 year old that was almost unstoppable at the Euros never showed again imo, he certainly never achieved for England at tournaments hardly scored outside a qualifier or friendly did he?

I will say that some of the above was down to how Fergie changed his game at Utd.

I really do doubt Rooney was lazy in any way as a footballer. You dont achieve what he did by being lazy. No way.

That dressing room he went into at Utd had unbelievable standards. Fergie standards so high. By all accounts the senior players ran training like a boot camp. Players like Keane and Neville made sure training was 100% all the time. Some players couldnt cope with it, but the fact Rooney went on to be Utd's top goalscorer tells me he relished it. I cant remember which manager it was but Rooney is supposed to have gone to them as captain and said training wasnt up to standard and it needs sorting. He also spent a lot of time training in a boxing gym. You dont get away with a lazy attitude in those places, no matter who you are, and I have been in a few with my lad.

He may not need to work, but he does. I doubt that is a lazy person tbh. I am sure he coule retire and live very comfortably. The fact he keeps putting himself into clubs like Derby and Plymouth suggests to me a big desire to be successful. He may not make it, but I reckon one thing it shows is he is a grafter.

I always felt he didn't achieve what he could have. Seems ridiculous saying it given what he didn't achieve but he could have been talked about in the same conversations as Messi and Ronaldo for who was the best of those few players that dominated world football for a decade or so.

But I also concede that part of it may have been that Fergie changed him as a player from that lad at Everton. And in reality probably got more out of him, I means it's Fergie he didn't get much wrong did he. I just always saw that 17 year old as unstoppable hungry player on his day but part of that was an aggression that was tempered at Utd probably for his own good.

Can’t fault anything he said there. Got our flaws last season spot on in one sentence. Also interesting to hear him alluding to working at clubs where not everyone is pulling in the same direction and where the energy is not good, presumably that’s Lorient last season.

What a surprise the lack of an assistant manager is.
Concerning where things are heading here - Cardiff result papered over the cracks short term imo.

Explain how its papering over the cracks after 2 matches?

RLB has said he doesnt just want to bring anyone in and they have to be the right person

Dodds n proctor are good coaches by all accounts, so why get rid of them just because Dodds struggled when he was appointed head coach?

Were they good coaches under Beale?

Lots of reasons.
There's a better than evens chance RLB wasn't allowed to take the job without Dodds and Proctor - he's just been relegated and his a stock is hardly high level.

Speakman would have loved to give the job to the 2 that had us plummeting down the table at a rate of knots but couldn't so needed a front man which is what I think we have got.

It won't be long before RLB is being undermined or hung out to dry as Speakman fails to bring in a proper striker (remember this bloke doesn't think c.forward is particularly important position in a team these days).

And guess who will be handily positioned to be interim head coaches again despite being way out of their depth?

Lots of opinions there n zero facts

Why not just give RLB to show whethet hes the right manager or not than talking about hypothetical situations that may or may not ever happen

It keeps happening. See the comments about a striker in today's interview.
We've played without a recognised striker for nearly 2 years and went 4/5 months without a head coach. There's some massive indicators right there that our sporting director is a little out of his depth not to mention the Beale, Dodds, Proctor debacle.

Theres also indicators that hes doing stuff right

Your comments were to do with the coaching staff nothing to do with the striker situation, the beale situation etc

You said its papering over cracks but nothing to back that up

Why not wait till the end of the window to see if lessons have been learmed or not

Cba with all the pointless negativity today, enjoy your weekend n lets hope for another 3 points to paper over more cracks

The 3 points backed up the first point - exactly what I said.
And yes definitely. I'm actually going to buy a ticket today for some mad reason.
