I'm not really getting this Trump controversy over Kamala Harris, feel like I'm missing something and need enlightening...

I've said myself on here, somewhere, why do they keep referring to Kamala as black?...I don't get it...

I've never thought of her as black, until the main stream media said, or I don't think I have, so why we using that to identify her...

It's like it's being use as a token to why she should be president (first black woman) - surely that's insulting in the sense that she has to be a certain colour to identify, I mean wtf?

Can someone explain?

Thought I was reading a comment from a few days ago because I’m sure we went over this already. Technically she’s mixed race. Jamaican father and Indian mother. So I guess the terms are used interchangeably, she’s the first black woman and the first Indian woman to run for president, but it’s just a mouthful to say all of that. You could say she’s the first woman of colour to run for president, she’s a black woman with Indian heritage. It was like with Obama, he’s mixed race, American mother and Kenyan father, raised in Hawaii. But he was referred to as the first black president.

Oh yeah, you're right we did discuss it. Still don't get what all the fuss is about, her name is Kamala Harris and she is running for president. If anything I wouldn't even refer to colour other than acknowledge her parentage. It just feels like 'black' is being used as some sort of token, it would have been like me keep referring to Rishi Sunak as brown or tongue in cheek can he be black to, I just wouldn't do it, but yeah I get what you are saying.

Labour, for the down trodden working man until he's of no longer use.

Now people might realise why OAPs vote Tory. not great but no other choice.

Still, the Unions will surely fight this on behalf of all those that paid dues all their working lives to keep union leaders well paid.

They’ll all be brown bread by the next election though, so problem solved <ok>

None of what Labour has done bothers me, it just makes good bantz.

I have a simple outlook on it all, it can't be any worse than the thieving Tories, and either way in five years time they can be voted out again...

So make hay while the sun shines.

I missed Angela's chat on social housing, hopefully can catch up on the news later.
we need to be repossessing the 700,000+ empty homes England has, half of which are being used for wealth hoarding.

This ^^^

Vast swathes of London’s docklands were bought up by Russian money (that we allowed to be laundered through the city) and now sit empty. I’m sure this sort of thing is replicated UK wide

I think it’s noteworthy in terms of US history that a black woman is running for president, especially given their history. There are still people alive who lived through segregation and it was only in 1964 that the civil rights act was passed.

I don’t think Kamala Harris or her team are making a great amount of noise about her race though, that seems to come from the media and commentators. And Trump of course who I heard this week saying that Harris has ‘turned black’ ffs <laugh>

I don't like Trump, but he's right, as you say as well, the media are making a lot of noise about her colour, they are only doing that because it ticks some boxes, dont't feel right to me when we are in age and we shouldn't be defining people by the colour of their skin.

Her heritage is described as: Ms Harris, who describes herself as African American and South Asian Indian American, hopes to become America's first female president.

It matters not, I'm merely saying black is being used as some sort of token here as if it will earn her some brownie points, or more black points, it's ridiculous. I want Kamala Harris to win, not because of the colour of her skin, but because Trump is a fooking clown, he's orange actually, why are media not saying that!? <laugh>

yeah i did that nigh on 40 years .
i swear at times it felt like i was the only idiot who paid for his prescription .

I'm over 60 now so I get free prescriptions, but I remember before then I was like you said, felt sometimes I was the only one paying. What done my nut in, I didn't know about annual prescription cards, not until one day in the chemist the lady turned round and said, you have a lot of stuff, why don't you have a prescription card, I'm like what?....she explains and I got my last prescription refunded. <laugh>

mine should have been on the exemption list but that hasn't been updated since Duggie was a lad so wasn't.
As an aside the automatic exemption for diabetics has to be removed as it makes no sense particularly as most are type 2 these days

I just think it’s noteworthy in terms of the history of the US. She’s the first blank woman presidential candidate, but I don’t think she’s running on a race ticket, thats just media noise.

I heard somebody refer to Trump as the Mango Mussolini the other day <laugh>

The Southport stabbing kid is Welsh, does this mean that the far right are now going to chuck bricks at Wales instead of Mosques?

Tragic enough without all the **** that has followed.

I've had my say on GC - I know I shouldn't, but fed up with all this violence from angry mobs.
