We are assuming that we have lost a game of football before a balls kicked here though:emoticon-0105-wink:

No, I'm saying that we can't say that we're happy having an underprepared squad because it's only for a few games when every game counts. I'm not saying we'll lose all 3 for certain, I'm saying we're not giving ourselves the best chance to win.

So are you suggesting every player we get linked to on Deadline Day is actually someone we've secretly been talking to for weeks?
Do you seriously think we ring up a player on deadline day for the first time and say “we know nothing about you, haven’t talked to you, haven’t talked to your club, but how about it?”

I was replying to the part of your post about Thomas Asante, obviously. Don’t do your subject shifting bollocks with me please.

Yes and I used Hughes as another example of a player. That's generally how discussions work, you cite multiple examples to demonstrate the point you're making.

That's an easy way out though. We know nothing about what goes on so we can't have an opinion.

All I can do is go by what I see. And what I'm currently seeing is that our incomings take way longer than our outgoings. I've given examples to support this. Ingram a bid came in he was out 3 days later. There's another example

I guess as the late (?) great Roy Walker said - 'just say what you see'

In some cases yes. Quite often we hear about a player suddenly being available due to business their club has done and we move quite quickly to sign them. That's how Deadline Day often works.

It really really really isn’t.

I'm not saying it's standard but quite a lot of deals can materialise from nothing on the day based on other business and players suddenly being excess.

Callum Chambers for example was offered to us last deadline day but we couldn't afford him. That's from tan himself. If we'd been able to afford him he'd have come and we certainly hadn't been talking to him before that day.

You are using a player that we clearly had no interest in signing, and conspicuously didn’t sign, as proof we sign players with no prior contact or scouting? Righto.

I know you don't know, and I'm not expecting you to have the answer, it was a rhetorical question. My point being ever since Acun took over transfers have positively dragged for days, or weeks. Sometimes it's been worth it, sometimes it's led to other clubs swooping in and sorting deals out much quicker than us. It just seems very weird. And when we're now in a race against time with the season starting in just over a week, it becomes a real problem.

I should say, when it gets to Deadline Day, we magically seem able to identify a target, contact the club, make a bid, and sign the player all in the space of 24 hours, so we do seem capable of sorting our **** out quite quickly when we need to. Could the club treat tomorrow as a Deadline Day?
Jesus wept.

Let's leave it there, you aren't getting it. I'm sure when we start the season with a **** squad it's just because transfers are complex and it's not our fault at all..
The rantings of a petulant child. It’s almost like you’re willing the club to fail as long as you can gloat afterwards to tell everyone you were right all along.

As proof clubs in general can be offered and act on players on Deadline Day, yes.

Or just to tell you you've been a daft twat telling everyone everything's fine and we'll have a promotion challenging squad when the window closes. It's ok to be critical sometimes.

It really really really isn’t.

It does, did you see that documentary a few years back, it was following the Sheffield united (I think) manager around on deadline day, must have spoken to about 50 players in one day, several on the way before literally turning round and going elsewhere from what I remember, and end up signing hardly anyone.

You don’t know the meaning of the word “sometimes”.

You've just told everyone you had no clue who tomas assante was but thought he was a depth player at wba who isn't particularly prolific but you were happy to say it was great business when it was happening. You don't know the meaning of sometimes.

But because they didn't sign they don't count. <laugh>

I said it was great business?
Source?
What i actually said was i’d never heard of him.
If he did play for west brom in those two games last season, then i dont recall him standing out.
And like most on here, googled him, looked at his stats and hoped that if we did sign him, he might turn out to be better than those stats.
But yes, carry on with your made up ****e.

I meant to say you would have praised it if it had happened, but you're right you didn't say it was great business when announced.
