Hoping we see some activity this week with regards a striker. One of the pods made a good point about PL loans and how the Euros mean that a lot of the PL clubs will be taking u21 players on tour in the absence of their regular starters. This will the impact potential loan deals, delaying them until later in the window. So, if we ARE in for a 1st choice like Mendy, and a young striker on loan it might be a couple of weeks for the latter. In any case, feels like it will be Mayenda up front v Cardiff regardless. Let's just hope we have better options come 1st Sept.
Defo has the ability to learn the role could be pivotal for us if he can adapt quickly. I think if Neil was to get injured this season it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world having Browne drop in there short term whereas last season we didn’t have that luxury.
Difficult one this. I’m definitely in the ‘rather wait for quality’ camp, but equally I really hoped they would be really on it early with filling this position. Until they sort this they will get pelters from many.
There was an article on the Times website over the weekend (about England's need for a proper pivot player) that perfectly described why Neil is playing as the deepest player IMO. For me it's both best for the club and best for the player for him to take that role.
Here's the (paywalled) article btw for those that are interested https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/england-midfield-pivot-z58dv29sc
Personally, I think he's more suited to the CDM role. If there's one part of his game which is weak, it's his finishing. It's very poor. If there's one thing the squad isn't short of it's Number 8's and we need them to be chipping in with their share of goals.
Good read that. If anyone wants a look you can chuck it into archive.org and see it. I’d copy and paste but it would take up a whole page
He was at Hulls stadium last night for their friendly. Crazy. He'll do very well there in Robins' system.
Apparently Kieffer Moore was at the airport about to fly to Turkey to meet them at their training camp but Sheff Utd hijacked the deal and now Thomas-Asante was at the stadium and Coventry have hijacked the deal. My head would explode
Is it not exploding due to the fact that we still have the same options available as of this time last summer ...
Got to remain optimistic with a few weeks to go but I can see why nerves are jangling. RLB has been here a month at best but I'd guess he's been involved in the Mendy situation. He'd have as much info as anybody. ? So the squad has been split in two judging by the recent games and the first team at Cardiff isn't that much of a guess now ? Mayenda and Mundle look to have pushed up the list.? Think the players to leave or loaned out has been decided before the new coach arrived so not that much input by RLB.? He did say in his first interview that experience is required. Hope he's got some good striker options to back up our data.
I’m reserving judgement on our recruitment of a striker(s) until the window closes. I’m not concerned at the moment and am sure it will be sorted. They won’t get away with things ‘not materialising’ this window - simply has to happen, and needs to be someone ready to go straight in to the starting line-up.
