I agree. The pressure on mayenda will be huge and the **** that will get flung RLB’s way if we still don’t have a striker and if we lose the games too. We don’t need that going into a new season
Would've taken him for that. Hull have money to spend now though so probably would've outbid us anyway.
I would rather get the right striker in by the end of the window than just getting a striker in before the 1st game. If we can get the right striker in before the start of the season then of course we would all rather that Its about the quality of the striker we bring in, we play 8% of our league games in August thats all so its about getting the right player in by the end at least You cant say because rusyn didnt settle that another striker who comes in later wouldnt be able to hit the ground running.... likewise i cant say for sure they would The priority is always getting the right players in during the window, not focusing on getting players in for the 1st game of the season (in an ideal world the window would close before the 1st game but thats not going to happen)
The truth is there’s no right answer here. There’s pros and cons to waiting and there’s pros and cons to take more of a risk now. Personally I’d rather have the right striker on the 30th August than another Rusyn now. But there’s no guarantees, like there wasn’t last year. It’s why my take is to just wait and see what happens. Nothing us fans can do to control it. I completely trust that the club will be wanting the right striker.
Theres a risk with all signings, wait too long n you could miss out on other targets, go too early n you miss out on better options becoming available I will always judge how weve done after the window rather than in the middle of the window I have zero issues with folk being concerned btw, not having a go at anyone for being concerned - just saying im not concerned at the minute
I'd understand your viewpoint if we had a viable option already at the club and we were just waiting for a signing to tip us over the edge. I'd also understand if players who would be very good signings for us weren't available right now but they are. Fully understand wanting the right striker and if we have to wait then I understand but a lot of other clubs aren't having issues. If we had a decent player trading model none of this would be an issue.
Asante and Conway two very decent options for this league under 5m and are available right now. I can’t really think of any strikers that are better and will be available later on. Especially on a permanent deal. Why aren’t these better strikers available right now?
The player trading model takes time to implement We also have very little knowledge on who is n isnt available, who is our price range, what is happening behind the scenes with ins n outs, who does RLB want - has he brought new names to the table, who wants to come to us, who weve been talking with Thats why i always wait until the end of the window We have ti get it right by the end of the window, not just making sure we are ok for the 1st few games of the season Not sure what you are disagreeing with if im honest? I said ideally they would be in for the 1st game but the most important thing is being stronger come the end of the window
Players come available later in the window because their clubs sign players that make them available. Its a tricky balance for teams, always a risk whatever you do - its about making the most calculated risks Also clubs keep bigger squads in preseason, new managers want to evaluate the squad - then that makes players available later in the window
You not think Speakman has been here long enough to develop a player trading model? I do. It's handcuffing our ability to grow. I'm disagreeing that it's more important for them to be in by the end of the window considering we don't have anyone to fill the void until then. I think we need a DM and a CB as well this window but they can be signed whenever because we have more than adequate players already in them positions and the signings wouldn't need to be thrown straight into the team with minimal time on the training pitch. I like Mayenda, think in time he will be a really good forward but I think if we start him against Cardiff and other games in August it will stunt his development. I think that is what happened to Hemir last summer and I believe we would be looking at a completely different Hemir if he wasn't started against Ipswich. You are correct that as long as we have a better squad come September then it's ok, but it's not an optimal situation to play even 8% of our games without a crucial player.
I think Hemir forced his way into the starting lineup against Ipswich to be fair, he was performing and scoring in pre season would of been a head scratcher if left out
Boro dropping £5m on a back up striker while we’re pissfarting about over a million quid. Going to be some egg on faces if we don’t bring someone decent in for a very good fee come the end of the window.
