Absolute bare minimum assuming you also add at least one new striker. As much as I like him and am glad he's back, we can't afford to start the season with only Oscar; he picks up an injury and we're back to screwed. Bar Tufan, and given that Greaves and Philogene leaving was inevitable, the outgoings can be seen as good business, but only 2-3 in before Bristol is plain ridiculous.
We are fortunate however of the complete unknown Walter’s style is to the wider championship. First few games teams will have no clue how to successfully set up against it.
And we’ll have no idea how to play it, could be a right old pantomine . No, I’m reading little into the friendly results, keep my thoughts to myself until the season gets under way
The senior team can do it. First 40 against Fenerbache and supposedly the first half of the first friendly we played some really good stuff. They should all in theory be really well drilled given the fact that Tim has had such a small group to work with. It’s kind of the only benefit, player quality may be lacking but coaching quality won’t be.
Was it Notts Forest who were in the relegation zone, may have been bottom at Christmas and then went on to get promoted. Not yet the time for us to panic.
Don't know, but it could have been Nottingham Forest. Think Keane took Sunlan from bottom 3 to promotion- think they turned it around from Oct onwards that season. IF the supposed 2/3 (lets be optimistic and say 3) before Brizzle are a decent keeper, centre half and striker then we could be okay for a couple of games before the loans arrive later in the window.
I admire your optimism old bean but I am beginning to think that City's pants have been firmly pulled down. Walter has been bowled a googly big time.
Ever the optimist, one thing I'm holding onto is the 75 mins or so that we've seen of the senior team playing Walterball, we've had no shortage of chances created. But they're getting created for Giles or Longman, etc. The best finisher at the club hasn't played yet. If we're creating these chances for Oscar. He gets goals. At least until we have a better squad later in the window.
2-3 players in before Bristol isn't great, but I wouldn't even take that as gospel. We always, consistently, take longer to complete transfers than we think we will. Must be three weeks ago now that the word was we'd have a striker and a right back in "next week". Here we are three weeks later with only the right back. Obviously Moore's change of heart didn't help but that's one part of it; Drameh also took ages to complete. I said at the time when the "two in next week" was mooted that it wouldn't happen as quickly as that.
Starting to worry a tad but hopefully next two weeks we get numbers and quality in. Striker, centre half, midfield beast and winger needed as minimum and that’s without having any options coming off the bench - Oscar may well score goals for us this season but to go from Delap to Oscar worries me too, given that with his back to goal, he’s pretty dreadful. Lots to be done in a short space of time.
That beat our youth team with a couple of senior players added in? The team against Donny won't be the team starting the first game of the season.
