thats the best way round to do it, because as soon as we get £25m for Clarke, every bugger we try to sign becomes much more expensive.
On a side note. Has anyone listened to the echo podcast where Phil Smith kept pronouncing Caen "ken" ffs. It's quite a historical place mate
Must be a treat for our doctors to perform a medical and not have to give out a lollipop at the end of it for being a good boy.
Yeah I actually think he's been decent at CB, but still not a 2 million player, worst value deal we've had under Speakman imo when you look at how good the deals are he usually makes
I wonder if Clarke really wants to leave. He hasn’t got good memories of his time in the Premier League and when we played the mags he was poor against a Premier League defender. I think he’s very happy here and it’s working well for him. He’s having a great time in the Championship, a big fish. If he were to go to the Premier League I have doubts it would work well for him there. Perhaps with a side like Ipswich he may get enough games but if he sticks with us he will play every game and because he’s such a good fit in our team he would probably do better if he went up with us (providing we go up sometime in the next 3 years) I wish him the best if he does move to the Premiership but I think he would struggle. I don’t think Neil or Ballard would struggle with the step up and next year you could add Jobe, Rigg, Huggins, Hume and Cirkin plus a couple of others. Clarke to me fits in between these two groups. Basically I want to keep all our top players. Maybe we could sell about £10 million’s worth of lesser players to cover the incoming players costs.
If Mendy and Poveda are done this week, then would our squad already be okay for the season? Not saying I think we should conclude our business, a specialist CDM and back up striker I think are needed. But this feels like a really good position to be in pre August. The potential outgoings the obvious concern at this point but things moving along nicely.
I don't think we've settled on a positon for him yet. I do agree that he's been good defensively in the main. Decision making in the attacking third needs work and he needs to get rid of the daft bookings but I think he's a good player and definitely worth persevering with.
Our midfield now is a better but Amad was very very special Clarke n neil both a lot better now, browne is better than Evans - poveda is as good as roberts imo Amad was the xfactor in that team but i think we have more balance now I agree with folk saying we should still be looking at a natural CDM
