Think so. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter if he's 'chosen Sunderland' if we don't want to pay the money, which we shouldn't if we don't feel like he's worth it

I'd love to have owners that's spent money on players every year, have spent on the infrastructure of the club, spent money on the fan experience in the stadium, listened to fans and went out and got a decent kit deal where bespoke kits have been created that are 100% unique bit also relevant to our club and city!
Instead what do we get...... yeah all of that and some ****s on social media who love a good moan about **** that isn't even true.

The quotes were a deal isn’t close and he is one of many targets. Sounds a bit off to me
It’s come from the club tho right? If they’re negotiating a fee they’re not going to tell the media it’s imminent and he’s their first choice. They need the other party to think we have other options.
What do you want the club to say? They can't piss off Caen by saying yeah it's basically done but at the same time they can't piss off Mendy by saying there's nothing in it but they also need to protect themselves, they can't say it's done incase it falls through.
A quote like that from Mendy is unprecedented, it probably caught the club off guard.
And if they said a deal was close it would tell Caen that we are close to accepting their asking price. Would be terrible negotiating. The quotes from him tonight put us in an excellent negotiation position and it would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we acted like it’s a done deal
