Fair question. We have to give him time to spend and see if it was just a rebuild but I, like others, heard things at the start which leave a doubt over the motives for him being here.
Biscuit man was only here for one thing, that was clear from the start, he wanted to go to Botanic. I was talking about Acun.
I think under FFP there was a limit to what Ülker/McVities could ever put in through sponsorship. Whatever the reason for the deal ending, it can't cost us so much that we have to have a fire sale. We already know the reasons players have left anyway.
Exactly. On the flip side, the really surprising thing is we didn't expect to have made zero signings at this stage (18th July, towards the end of pre season training camp, ahead of a prestigious friendly, etc). Still not panicking and still trusting in Acun & Tan, but it is now getting a bit silly, even worrying. (I don't count Giles as he was already here last season).
A lot of folk are saying this, about Greaves and Philo I suppose, but is it right, what would be more right and why? What is the going rate for a young, leftie CB with PL potential? Have others been traded this window to set a guideline? I don’t know the full detail of the Philo deal, it seemed complicated so I don’t know if it was good or not.
£8 million profit on one season is insane. £16/18million (+ add ons) for a player many would have been happy to see go for £5 million only a season ago is also insane.
Your only worth what someone is willing to pay. Note your investment may go down or up in value according to factors outside of your control.
The backer would have no difference what we able to spend. Newcastle are finding out that having the wealthiest backers in the world does not mean a lot when rules determine how much you have to spend.
