I think people are a bit too easily impressed by Tan here. He just said all the things he obviously should say. The Giles stuff was interesting, he pretty much confirms that Giles is wanted and would like to leave, but they want him to stay. Hopefully we're firm on that and he does stay, but it's also possible that it's just a strong negotiating stance to try and get the best possible fee by appearing unwilling to sell.
He didnt say that at all. In the same way that you accuse people of being too easily impressed, you are one of those where everything he says is treated with mistrust. Why is it so difficult to understand or believe that the best deals take time,
Tan went on record saying that Philogene was our player and we wouldn't accept a sub-par deal for him and insinuated he had buddies at other clubs who would help drive his price up. None of which eventuated and he's gone back to Villa, essentially his parent club.
As per usual I have no idea what you're trying to say here. You asked why PLT treats everything Tan says with mistrust, and I've pointed to one of the most contentious examples that a lot of us were skeptical of at the time and has eventuated exactly as we anticipated. A refresher in case you've forgotten his comments: https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jaden-philogene-buy-back-clause-9079673 "They still have to agree with the player and they still have to match, and this is very important, they still have to match if we receive another offer. I think when the time comes, it would be a hefty deal for Villa to get him back, but they're our friends so I'm not saying anything that I shouldn't be saying here." "Anytime in Jaden's contract, if we promote, they have the right to buy him back for a specific price. Again, I'm underlining it, if there's no other offers, so there will be offers," he added.
I'm trying very hard but I'm invariably struggling to see in that quote any insinuation that Tan has buddies at other clubs willing to bid millions on Philogene... It also doesn't claim anything that isn't true. Villa had to pay more than double what we paid for him. The second paragraph is only relevant to the buy back clause as well, which is a redundant point as we're not in the same league as them. Nothing contentious in there at all unfortunately.
Are you insinuating that Tan's lying? He's made things pretty clear I think. If he was lying it'd be very easy for these comments to bite him on the arse.
You'd have to listen to the actual audio then. The question was asked to Tan that people had seen Villa supporters on Twitter saying Jaden was basically just on loan and would be back at Villa in the summer. Tan laughed it off and emphasised he was our player. Last I checked the questioners concerns have been realised and we got a relatively small sum back (considering our owner said he wouldn't sell for less than 30m Euros). You'd also have to look back at the discussion on here about what was taken to be meant by his "There will be offers" comment if you think that doesn't insinuate what would happen.
£8M profit on a player bought less than 12 months ago is a hefty profit in most peoples books. Jaden didnt set the Championship on fire, hence why most think he will only make appearances off-the bench next season. Maybe it was always the plan including Philogenes that he would only stay one season unless we were promoted, Remember we were told the deal was done a couple of weeks before it happened but it took wrangling over the exact clauses to get it done just hours before the deadline. Ipswich triggered the deal, thats all they were prepared to offer. No other suitors came forward hence Villa triggering the clause they always intended to.
Not in Acun's apparently. If it was always the plan that Philogene would only stay one season then Tan's emphasis on him being our player and not essentially here on loan for a year was especially disingenuous. Palace and Everton also had bids accepted or were interested in Philogene, only Ipswich had agreed personal terms.
You are aware of the colour grey and the fact that shades exist? Not every single word in an interview has to be taken as an absolute black and white fact, and scrutinised as if this is a court of law.
No one said it did, which is exactly why PLT is skeptical of Tan's comments now. But well done on getting there in the end.
He absolutely did set the Championship on fire and that's why he's got a big move. He's unlucky that Summerville & Whittaker had such good seasons or he'd have been in with a great chance of the Team of the Season. Regardless, 12 goals and 6 assists in 2800 mins is very good going for a 22-year-old winger in a side that wasn't free scoring
'There will be offers' insinuates nothing other than the fact the club knew the level of quality they were bringing in. Not that Tan was levying insiders at other clubs to bang big offers in to help us further down the line. It doesn't even make sense as a possibility. If one club offers 18 million and it's accepted, why then would someone come in and offer more? Again, that specific quote was related to Villa's buy back should we have been in the same league. He was saying that Philogene could have gone for more than 15 million should we have been promoted because there would be multiple clubs after him because of his talent. But that clause wasn't triggered, because we aren't in the same league, ergo what Tan said about it isn't even relevant.
I'll add to the above moreso... The fact we got less than 30m euros doesn't mean Philogene was on loan here for the season and was always going to go back. If nobody had come in for him there's no telling if he'd be playing another season for us. Villa probably thought it was too good an opportunity to pass up seeing as they'd get a discount. I don't see how any of this guarantees Tan has lied to us...
