I think posters rightly have concerns
What would our first team look like now ? Today?

looking at the first post 12 have left out of the first team squad from end of last season.

While the players who are doing the training are learning Walter’s methods you would think not many are actually first team starters

so Walter is up against it without a first team to coach and the season opener just over 4 weeks away
And as I stated earlier in the thread
A ready made excuse for any coach is they didn’t have a proper preseason!!

We have time not much tbh but we need five in at least in the next few days to give our new coach a chance

I agree with this, but then it also depends on who the targets are. We could find that Walter finds some legit first teamers amongst who we already have that excel in his system, or we may sign players familiar with his system and his expectations etc. Even domestic signings might take to his playing style quickly.

I agree with the club's stance. I'd rather the right players come in and it takes a little longer than just bringing anyone in quickly. I know that's not what you're suggesting :emoticon-0148-yes:

I think Simons needs game time, he’s just spent a season injured at Fleetwood and when their manager changed he didn’t get in their squad. It’s sensible to take him on the trip to look at him properly and see if Walter thinks he has something to offer.

With Longman, he’s a handy squad option. He’s pretty good at pressing so he might bring something that TW thinks will help. If Millwall are desperate to bring him back, and they have the same ambitions as us, that suggests he’s capable of being in our squad.
Longman was a scapegoat for some during a very bad period under Shota. There is a player in there and the right coach with an attacking mindset may well suit him. From memory he also played games at full back which was restricting him showing his full potential but that could be my bad memory.

I would be happy to have Longman and Simons on the bench as options.

I recall a fans meeting with Kesler a few months ago, when they said they would have ways of nudging up Philogene's value by working with Villa. Maybe this is that in action.

minus the £5m we paid for him that I assume is not fully paid off yet. we'll be lucky to get around £7-8m profit at the end of it all.
If we sold for £18m to Ipswich, Villa would still have got 5.4 million... so it doesnt matter where he goes we still haven't done fabulously out of it.. Pull the plug, say he's not for sale, make him play his contract and hope that he improves and is worth 30 in January.,

And I've just read somewhere that Villa want him back, and have matched the Ipswich offer but Villa get a 30% reduction, which was agreed at the time with City? First I've heard about any discount?

Well that's how sell ons work. If villa get 30% of the sale and the sale is to themselves they're effectively getting him 30% cheaper than any other club can.

I don't know why we accepted such a low offer from Ipswich. Can they now offer more and force villa to match?

My frustration is we should have replaced Greaves and Philogene before they leave. A lots said about the Brighton and Brentford model but that’s what they do. If we are having to sell 35/40 million pounds worth of players, our best players I may add, then the club isn’t run correctly. The same happened with Bowen, albeit a sinking ship at the time.

It’s difficult to replace players in the same window unless it’s a short term situation. We are going to try and do that with 7/8 players.

I hope Acun has learnt, and sticks with Walter as if he keeps changing his mind it’s going to cost the club and him a lot of money, but we will suffer the most. Also we’ve gone through a purple patch over the last 10/15 years of turning talent over especially homegrown talent.
You cant really replace a player before he leaves. You would have targets, and there is zero chance that City dont have a list of replacement targets for the players leaving, but until you know what you have to spend you cannot start throwing money around.

If we are unlucky the targets are gone before we are in a position to buy. It is like selling your house.

Don't be daft. Plenty of clubs replace players before they leave. Simons was meant to be Seri's successor and omur was Tufan's. We're signing a new RB despite still having coyle. Well run clubs future proof their squad so they already have replacements ready to step in before selling players.

We could have made offers for the Peterborough CB or Cashin as low cost options to replace Greaves and it would have actually strengthened our hand when selling him.

So sells on work as such. It could be the full fee which is 5.4 million. Or a sell fee on profit.m which could be 3.9 million.

So for us it would be 12.6 million or 14.1 million. Minus the 5 million we spent on him and his wages, there’s about 6/8 million profit left.

Going to be very complicated deal with sell ones etc if he goes back too Villa.

Sell ons are never against the full fee. It would be against the profit
