Fact is, we paid £5 million for Philogene.... the brains team behind that signing will no doubt be working hard to find the next one and he'll be out there. Greaves going gives an opportunity to Andy Smith, who is to say he wont develop further, or even Alfie Taylor who many Premiership clubs were trying to prise away last season or season before...
You’re not posting facts, you’re posting an opinion. You have no idea what we have to spend this season, the £13m you keep mentioning isn’t even a certainty, if we lost £26m last season, that allowance has been used already. It’s unlikely it has, at least not all of it, but in reality we don’t have any idea what our headroom actually is.
I get that, I would like to see signings made. I think there's an element that we are slow but I also think there's an element of seeing how much we can get for them both before pulling the trigger on our own signings. E.G. If we got £25m combined for them both, we would probably be in the market for a striker who's worth £3m. If we got £40m combined for them both, we might be able to look at a whole different market and calibre of player. If we bought a 'main' striker for £3m, then realised we could have spent £8m, I'm sure we would have all preferred to wait and not blown the £3m.
To clarify, the fact I'm referring to is that the pitch is not counted in FFP so citing it as part of our 13m allowable losses is wrong. Except that FFP is judged on a rolling three year period and a year of losses have also dropped off. And as Kalman said, even if we lost 26m last season, it doesn't stop us spending a pound more, it just means we HAVE to sell one or both of Jaden and Jacob, something the club has given no indications are a necessity. Call that posturing all you want, but we would have sold them at the first offer if we were that desperate.
I wasn't aware that the pitch doesn't count towards the FFP, so apologies for that. It still has to paid somehow though.
That's perfectly understandable which is why I've repeatedly said the positions we should be filling now are the bits 'round the edges'. The depth and speculative cheap players, not the main pieces. There will come a point in the next few weeks where we do need to draw a line though and bring in some key players to give them time to gel with the squad. And if we do suddenly end up with more money than expected that's a bonus.
As Acun constantly bemoans FFP holding him back and how he has the capacity to spend a lot more, I don't think that should be seen as a concern. And as Kalman pointed out, if it's a cash flow concern then Jaden and Jacob's sales won't result in cash being lumped in our account either. Likewise, we can buy players on credit as all clubs do. But yes infrastructure developments and improvements are exempt from FFP, as are women and youth team spending.
It is of course, reasonable. But there’s still 2-3 weeks before the first friendly I believe. If we haven’t signed a handful before then, it is time to be apprehensive. I think all will turn out well though. I guess I’m just trying to calm things down.
Acun sacked Rosie after we finished 7th because he wasn’t entertained. There was a split on here about that decision, which I’m sure was the same across the whole support base. Nationally it was a crazy decision and was Acu “another mad foreign owner” Knowing Acun like we do, I dont think he’d set himself up to fail and be known as “another mad foreign owner” There has to be a plan or why not leave Rosie in charge? The strange thing about Acun is he’s impatient and his lifestyle dictates everything is 100mph, yet the club seem to operate in reverse. As I say I don’t think he sacks Rosie, loses half his squad and brings a manager over from Germany to be worse than last season. His personality isn’t that type…..he isn’t Ehab
Hopefully, with Kilman going to West Ham, Greaves goes to a more established team like Wolves instead of Ipswich and we can get £20 million+ for him. Fingers crossed.
Yeah. I would be really disappointed if we get £30-35 million from Ipswich for both of them. Hopefully if Wolves and other clubs show serious interest in Greaves and other clubs are interested in Philogene, we can start a bidding war and squeeze as much money as possible.
I wouldn't worry about us only seeing £30m for the pair. There's been so much nonsense reported and Chinese whispers
He is busy with Fener and Turkish national team events. I don't think he is involved this season. Yet.
The only concern I have at the moment is the lack of rumours in the free agent market for us. With the amount of players we need through the door I'd have thought we'd have a couple of freebies lined up already. Although maybe it's waiting to see what our budget is after Greaves and Philo go as has been said, to then understand what we've got per position. Question is, with 40m, do you go for 8 x 5m players or do you go for 4 x 10m players and fill the rest with bargains?
mix of all of them I assume, we need quality loans and frees to bulk up the squad but also improvement on last years depth. I doubt we will spend 10m on anyone but wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple in the 5m range and a few foreign punts around 2-3m
Don't forget that it is EURO year, beside Mbappe, there haven't been any major transfer, I mean Kilman tops the list so far. After QF, most teams will return home and market will move for top leagues, then secondary leagues (Championship) and leagues out of top 5 countries will start to get crazy around August.
You must be aware that they'll be undisclosed fees so we won't actually know what fees we'll get until they have to show them in the accounts. Everything is just speculation until then.
