Because it made no commercial sense for Villa. From what Tan said they could match at 15m but if someone came in above that we could sell to someone else. Which makes the 15m offer for Villa pretty redundant, it just helps us set the bidding at a minimum.
Well that would be the case for almost every transfer anyway. If you’ve agreed a price for a player you’re going to accept that price from basically any other interested parties too, maybe with the exception of key rivals.
Barca have bad current history of paying for players. Leeds haven’t received the full fee for Raphinha yet
Any day, you can walk down Whitefriargate in peace. Last time I walked down Las Ramblas I had a hair braid, 3 wrist bands, a marijuana bandana and a cartoon drawing of myself by the time I’d reached the other end.
Pretty sure he did say that villa would have the chance to match any fee another club agreed over and above 15m. But he also said the 15m buyback would only trigger if the 2 clubs were in the same division.
Presumably though in this case if Villa match the fee they get first right to agree personal terms. However everything I've heard is that Villa don't want him back.
Which presumably (unless we have terrible lawyers) would mean 23m Euros plus whatever the loan fee is for next season. Sounds like at least £20m if not more. Can't see Villa paying that for a player they didn't rate enough to keep a season ago.
I think all this kind of stuff is just a load of bollocks, there’s no way anything like that could be policed. How would anyone stop Barca getting in contact with him or his representatives and how would it be proved.
It'd be proved if he went to Barca before Villa got a chance to speak to him and they'd kick up a fuss. As a general principle though I agree all this stuff is so convoluted and gets twisted in knots.
I don’t know why those ****s haven’t been given a transfer ban until they pay any outstanding instalments for players they’ve signed. People can complain about Man City all they want but I think Barça’s actions have been far more egregious and they’ve been allowed to get away with it.
