There is no way Morton is worth anything close to 20m. If he’d played like he did until autumn all season long then you could maybe make a case. Pretty much the entire second half of the season he’d barely be worth £3m.
Worryingly there’s only 5 or 6 of those who could reasonably be considered first choice starting players.
Last seasons failure looks even worse when you see that. Biggest rebuild job we’ve had in 10 years, with more expected to leave.
Longman started to rediscover his form toward the end of the season didn’t he? And if what people say about Walter is true, a runner like Longman could well find himself a place in the team. Maybe not written off?
Norwood is regularly apart of midfields that don’t get cut through always near the tops of the tackles charts
If we bring in 10 new/loan players we also need to factor in how many will make a significant contribution and be successful because it won't be all of them. From last summers transfer thread.... Incoming Tyler Morton - Liverpool - Season long loan. Jaden Philogene - Villa - Three-year deal + one year option. James Furlong - Brighton - Three-year deal + one year option. ScottTwine - Burnley - Season long loan. Liam Delap - Man City - Season long loan. Rúben Vinagre - Sporting CP - Season-long loan Ryan Allsop - Cardiff City - Two-year deal + one year option. Jason Lokilo - Sparta Rotterdam - Two-year deal + one year option. Aaron Connolly- Brighton - One year deal. I think we did pretty well all things considered but still not everyone.
Fixtures come out on Wednesday 26th at 9am... Tim Walter officially starts one week today..ie July 1st...Seem to think it could be a busy month in the City bootroom.
Equally if we are going into 24/25 with Tufan and Seri as key players having just failed to be seriously involved in the promotion race is that not the same as failing to trade in your steady Mondeo for something a little more stylish and powerful? We have a new coach coming in with a new style and it is not even the 1st of July yet but still people are flapping. Is it really too hard to believe that Walter wants his own team and is happy to see players leave because he has replacements/targets lined up? Forums can be a lot of fun but it is times like these where you see the real problem with them. Dozens of experts all flapping whilst the reality is the owner, Tan and Walter will be at work putting together the squad he wants. Acun does not strike me as the person who would make Walter keep players he doesnt want or need. Nobody has any idea of what the plan is but that does not mean there isnt one. It is a Professional football club with a manager of high pedigree, I would put my house on them not being sat there this weekend saying 'oh no, Tufan has gone, now Seri's wife is being cryptic, do we have any other ideas for a CDM guys or are we just going to have to get Slater to play there'. Enjoy the Euros, let the club build the squad and be happy we are being promised entertaining football. It could be another year of Rosenior ahead!
Of that list you'd expect another 5 or so to be sold or sent out on loan, as they aren't anywhere near good enough for a promotion chasing team (whether down to age or ability). It's a massive task.
I think Seri will be hardest to replace along with Greaves. Tufan was a favourite of mine, great to watch on his day but replaceable. The other thing with Seri is he may not be a fit for Tim Walter and his style of play.
Think you're right about Seri and Greaves being hard to replace. They have very specific skill sets which our other players don't. I can see McLoughlin being considered a poor fit for the playing style (bit like how LR played Coyle at CB instead of using him at Leeds, when he wanted to really press them high up). I think this is a problem for us this summer, our succession planning for some of these players doesn't look great. So not only do we need a lot of bodies in but we also need replacements with very specific skill sets for some of the outgoing players. I include Allsop in that too.
He's not 20 million yet is he. There were times games passed him by while here, scored what was it 3 maybe 4 and to pick up on someone elses point, he IMO never stepped up while Seri was away at AFCON.
I agree with you about Allsop being a specific skill set we will struggle to replace, however will we find someone with popadom wrists who can't save anything at his near post.
Walters says in this article it doesn't have to be early signings but the right signings. Tim Walter makes key pledge over Hull City's summer transfer strategy - Hull Live (hulldailymail.co.uk)
Agree with this. I think this has to be a summer where we almost draw the line under previous planning and start again. You look at the clubs we could emulate. The Brentfords, Bournemouths and Brightons - our recruitment needs to start falling into place so that we have the immediate plan for a player in a position and one eye on what comes next. It very much feels like we haven’t done that yet. So even if we buy a short term player for a position I’d hope we’d be thinking of the future in terms of scouting too. Whilst the January window was exciting - it wasn’t particularly long term planning was it? Omur being the exception. I hope weve learnt from last year.
