Well I didn't say not doing much, I said not doing as much as certain others. By that I mean the likes of Coyle, Greaves, Jones, Morton, Slater, Ömür, Philogene and Delap, who I suspect all cost us less in wages than any of the Super Lig gang and who are/were trusted to play more regularly. But yes, Tufan is certainly a goalscorer and his goals might be difficult to replace.

But what do you mean not doing as much as them?

I mean playing games primarily. People love the idea of Tufan on paper but in practice, he isn't really trusted as a regular starter. He plays on the wing if we don't have a winger or up front if we don't have a striker, but he's never really had a place in the team of his own except for the first few weeks under Shota. If you can get a Philogene or an Ömür or loan a Delap, for say two-thirds of what Tufan costs, and they're good enough to nail down a spot every week, then it's a much better deal. That is a huge if and a guess on the wage differential, but I think that is a possible way that City are looking at it. As I said, I think we'd probably have let him go for free like Traore if he too was out of contract.

Rosenior also liked to play Slater up front and on the wing, and Allsop in goal.

We have a different manager now, whatever the previous manager did with him doesn’t really matter.

Yep. Agree with most of that. It's not black and white. I think there is some logic to the decision, and I think there are reasons to question it too. We don't know much at all about what Walter thinks about the squad or how much say he has anyway, which are the crucial things I think.

i reckon tufan was adamant he wanted the transfer and its hard to turn down a player when you get a fee
its more just
the chance of a squad with such a rebuild fighting for promotion in the championship is extremely unlikely
now if acun gives walter time, thats fine, but ???

I would imagine Walter will have a fairly lengthy list of players that he would like to sign. They won’t all have played for him but the majority will probably have played in Bundesliga 2 over the last few seasons. That will probably give the ‘think tank’ or whatever they call it a fair few to run the rule over before you start counting the players that they are already aware of or have been made aware of by the scouting network.
I don’t think we’ll struggle too much to pull some decent players in but getting them to gel and get up to speed with the tactics and the fitness levels required to make it work are more of a concern for me.

We'll be able to attract some Bundesliga players too. The quality of the bottom third of the league really does drop off, and so do the wages so there will be options. It's more that the rebuild just keeps getting bigger and bigger and whilst I understand the enjoyment of signing new players, we'll be pushing towards 15 new arrivals this summer. It's certainly going to be another summer where we sign 10+ new players (I think that's the 4th or 5th in a row now but it could be more), and that's not conducive to success.

If we only needed 4/5 players this summer, there's logic. I'd like Walter to have got him on the grass, he's meant to be an extremely likeable guy and players seem to hold him in high regard.

We're going into a pre-season where most of the players that will be here, we'd like gone anyway.

you only need to look at boro last season
this season, i expect them to go for automatics.

He's just done what many foreign owners have done before. He's come in, spent a lot of money but because they don't have any knowledge of the league, they make mistakes. I understand he relies on Tan but he doesn't have any experience within the English leagues either. Acun's wanted to be too involved instead of bringing in a 'Dan Ashworth type', it's just the ego of thinking that they know best, but the ego/arrogance has cost him millions.

The non-footballing decisions and commercially, they've done superbly well.

People saying "he's 29 it's a reasonable fee" are talking as if he's 36. He's basically in his prime age wise and has just had the best goal scoring season of his career. You're allowed to be critical of the fee we've accepted.. It's a joke. It's not even July, it's not deadline day.

Someone asked what we'd be happy to pay if he was at another club. If we were looking at a cm who just scored 10 goals in the championship we'd be looking at 4-5m surely. How much would Fulham have wanted for Seri if he'd had two years left on his deal with them when we were interested?

I think you lot are missing the point. If Tufan turns round and says I want to move, why would you keep him? He’s obviously shown some desire to leave. If the fee is right Acun will let him leave especially with 1 year left on his contract. He’s going to run it down otherwise, and knowing his history if we say no he might down tools and be useless.

Also he’s probably our highest earner. Also can anyone tell me what his best position is? Alright his return has been fairly good on a statistical basis but I still don’t know where he plays in a 433? He’s no false 9 and probably not creative enough for a number 10 roles. Like I said earlier, for the monetary spend on him over his time here he’s probably been a 6/7 out of 10 signing, I’d have loved 1.7 this time last year if he’d have gone.

I've felt for a while that if Tufan was out of contract this summer we'd probably have let him go. He's never been a player the manager really trusts; he fits in at times wherever we have room for him rather than him really nailing down a spot of his own. If as reported he's one of our highest earners then I think there is some logic in letting him go and instead allocating those wages to one or more real core players who play every week. Especially for a reasonable fee.

That said, it's yet another extra player to add to the rebuild, and a player who scores goals too.

As for Ohio, he was alright for us in the end, but does he really stand out ahead of your average bustling striker with a bit of pace? He was here on loan under a different manager, does it necessarily follow that he must be the right striker to sign under a new manager with a supposedly different style? If we signed him, I'd find it quite hard to believe that it's because Walter had coincidentally made him his preferred target as opposed to Acun and his boys going for someone familiar to them.

Not missing any point. It's June. Do we know he wants to leave? Do we let him leave for nothing if he wants to leave? Aren't we talking about trying to get a big fee for Greaves and Philogene if they want to leave for the PL? Why should this be any different?

He also has two years left on his deal not sure why people try to pretend it's only one. If he hypothetically walked into Tans office and said he wants to leave and we've sold him for chips to the first club that's come calling before exploring if other Turkish clubs are interested and would pay more that's rubbish business practice. We can also say to Trab we're happy to do a deal to accommodate him but only if they offer x million. Tufan is a big boy he know how this works. To suggest he'll down tools - again, need I remind you it's June not august - is daft.

And anyone claiming this is smart from an FFP perspective, we're selling him at a loss so we're in a worse position this year from an FFP perspective now. As someone suggested, I do wonder if this is some weird way of clearing the fee we paid for omur.

From what’s been said, it sounds like the manager doesn’t say who he wants, as such, more a case of, there’s X players to choose from that have been scouted, & then the manager says yes or no to them.
So it’s possible that Ohio could return under the new manager.

I'm sorry to see him go, particularly as he is by far our best penalty taker, but with Omur probably our better 10, Tufan was more or less vying for the same position, so might well be on the bench at times.

One negative is leaving Omur as the only Turk, but I expect we may well see one or two coming in at some point, so probably not an issue.

I am sure we will start to see a squad develop in TW style, and how he wants to play the game.

Indeed, even so, I still feel 2m is a fair price, particularly as the player wants out.

However, on a footnote, Tufan should be grateful for his time with us, as it has resurrected a stalling career.
