"... with car makers fined £15,000 for every vehicle that misses the target..".
Wow! This has to be utter madness.
"Carlos Tavares ... branded the UK's approach as "terrible" (he's being polite I guess!!) and said it could jeopardise care makers' futures by forcing them to sell cars at a loss"
Meanwhile we see China starting to flood our country with their EV's. How can we be so stupid as a country?

The law has changed from 2030 to 2035, it will change again."Let us sell what we want, or we're leaving"
Since when should a corporation dictate the laws of a country?

They are not dictating anything. The very fact that they are reducing petrol/diesel vehicles for sale in this country is an acceptance of the punitive fines. We dont want to be fined. This is how we avoid it.
Great ....if you've got £40-55k+Maybe I've got this wrong, but my understanding was that Ford are reducing numbers to be sold and then the quoted guy is the head of Peugeot, Citroen, Jeep and Opal - the four carmakers who coincidentally are the most behind in the electric race. I think he's talking his own book.
Ford are releasing the Explorer SUV electric in Europe in autumn.. the sales of this will dictate whether Ford continues with private vehicles in Europe. Should do well as it's got a 600km range and is the right size for the biggest selling car type - small SUV.

That's fair enough, but cars are ridiculously cheap in the UK, compared to the rest of Europe. I think I read that even before the war, new cars were the same price to buy in the UK as in Ukraine, despite the obvious salary differences. I think even in the second hand car market, the UK is the cheapest,, due to the number of new cars bought every year. In the UK, the average is to change car every four years, in Poland, it's every 8.
