There will of course be the narrative that he was "available when we sacked Mowbray" and the Saudis will have a laugh that the was the manager in charge when they beat Sheff Utd 8-0. He's uninspiring in terms of exciting appointments, but then again so was Mowbray. So was Alex Neil for that matter. There will also be the question about why it's taken so long to decide on him, not to mention the salty podcasters who will say "ye cannit tell me that they'd analysed all the data and the best fit was a lad out of work etc etc etc" but an experienced Championship Manage with a history of success is exactly what we should be looking for. I don't want him like
With heck though isn’t it a bit obvious he will have been right down the pecking order and confirm that we aren’t as attractive as a club as we wish ? for the record if it’s Heck then just get him in and let’s go to work
It's not just us either it's actual clubs as well. Look at the last 2 seasons the 6 managers to be promoted are; Kompany - now at Bayern Edwards - highly thought of, been linked to some pretty good jobs Maresca - Chelsea McKenna - was linked to top jobs before signing new contract Martin - will be the next in line for a 'big' job and then there's Hecky.
That's fair, I guess for me it's about the pragmatism of having someone with recent success and simply trying to copy and paste that onto us, he's had a solid if unspectacular career to this point and I think that's mostly what we need.
If its Heckingbottom then we really have reached point of desperation. That's not saying he is bad but it's saying if he was anywhere near our preferred choice we could have had him months ago. The one bonus is there is no way Burnley will be in for him so we probably would be favourites
