Why? Because any discussion quickly degenerates into pointless arguments and insults and becomes completely meaningless as no one ever changes their minds. It just creates a hate filled space, eventually everyone will get bored and no longer come on here.

Threads like Now for something completely different work well because, on the whole, they don’t get bogged down. The football stuff is fine (even when it gets really pedantic) because we all basically agree (ie support City). Politics and religion threads wouldn’t function like this, they’d just become a vile slanging match.

Ultimately I don’t care or want to care what any of the boards politics are. I know some people on here’s views are politically opposed to mine but so what? It’s about supporting City and having a bit of a laugh for me.

I like the no politics/religion rule and wouldn’t thank you for a separate dedicated thread either.

How do you know I know nothing?

Is this innate knowledge you have independent of any known experience of my knowledge?

Or do you have knowledge gained through an interaction with information and facts pertinent to the knowledge I have that I know nothing?


It’s your basic a priori or a posteriori dichotomy.





And this is exactly the type of pointless argument you’d get on a politics thread.

Albeit with more racism and misogyny.

There are Politics threads on others boards which are well rounded and non verbally abusive...

If you like that sort of thing there's general chat, but having had a mooch around there in the past you will realise why we have a no politics or religion rule.

It's not just a whim of the mods, it was requested by the board users. I personally think it's a good thing, as it just become fractious and leaks in to other threads, but that's just my view.

Why does a post criticising Ed Davey for lying get pulled up when the previous ones, mainly about Tories, didn’t?

That is a very valid point, but to be fair, the one on GC has very little actual politics. It's more of a long standing piss take, with a bundle of long term scores trying to be settled.

Seeing as all religion is just a collection of old fairy stories and anyone who is religious is a ****ing idiot, yes ban it, but all is life is affected by politics, not necessarily the government kind, VAR got political what with Wolves wanting to ban it, so a vote was required.
Anything requiring a vote usually has an element of politics in it.

Have a dedicated religion and politics thread with the provision of no complaints allowed. I never visit the betting, FNMT, or mental health threads on here, other delicate types are free to do so if a religion/politics thread appears on here. Viewing is not mandatory. :emoticon-0125-mmm:
