The thing is Smug mate, I think we were waiting on Still until probably 7-10 days ago. When he said no, we moved on to speaking to other targets.
Makes sense although I find it hard to believe we would pay a compensation package. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we did.
Would be over the moon with either of those, still got a feeling it’s going to be someone not mentioned though, who is anyone’s guess mind
Good shout, I did see he was linked previously and he’s obviously done well at QPR. There’s a lot of QPR fans who are convinced he’s leaving as well (not necessarily to us though).
So he allegedly said he wants to manage in England, agrees a contract verbally and then has his head turned and goes back to France. fair play to him as he’s not actually done anything wrong as until that contract is signed the interested party (and the employer) can do owt they want.
Can't see it ending well for Still & Lens, he'll be wanting to come back to England (again) by the end of next season.
Its funny how perceptions change. Maybe its just because he's essentially turned us down, but now even the PHOTOS of him in all the Lens tweets make him look a right arrogant twat to me
The club should have such things as language barriers nailed by having translators, or English lessons, if the individual wanted them IMHO. All this talk about the new coach MUST be bilingual is utter nonsense IMHO.
Just made a massive list of managers it could be, some good some very bad and some more realistic than others and here’s what I got: Diego Martinez, Robbie Keane, Gerhard Struber, Enrico MaaBen, Ronny Deila , Marek Papszun, Liam Rosenior, Paul Heckingbottom, Scott Parker, David Wagner, Alex Neil, Nigel Pearson, Frank Lampard, Roy Keane, Gus Poyet, Ole Gunnar Soljskaer, Marti Cifuentes, Shaun Maloney, Steven Naismith, Ruben Selles , Michael Skubala , Stephane Gilli, Christian Titz, Luka Elsner, Henrik Rydström, Erik Horneland, Miron Muslic, Marcel Rapp, Christian Ilzer , Robert Klauss, Mattia Croci-Torti, Didier Digard, John O’Shea, Alex Rae, Rene Maric, Ryan Mason, Lee Carsley, Sebastian Geppert, John Heitinga, Matt Gill, Peter Krawietz, John Terry, Carlos Cuesta, Anthony Barry, Kevin Phillips, Graeme Murty + Mike Dodds Sorry for the s
Overall pleased it is not Still now. At one point I was willing go get on board with it, but after so long I lost any interest. I will watch with interest how he does, no animosity. I just doubt he was anything like a good fit for our club, squad and the next steps we need to take. Lets focus on someone who is better suited to the players we have, and improve that squad, so that the new coach has a chance. At the minute whoever we appoint needs the recruitment team to give them a much stronger hand.
Perhaps KLD got wind that Lens were announcing Still today, hence getting that statement out on Friday evening.
Another linked but slightly off topic point. Chris Rigg is 17 next Tuesday and can sign a pro deal with anybody on that day. We really do need the head coach in this week (I said that last week).
Was never disappointed when it looked like Still was off last week, more disappointed talks with Jansen didn't progress.
For me, that's exactly the reason for the Friday announcement, to limit the inevitable backlash from certain quarters.
