It looks very much like they decided on Still in February without having a full commitment from him and then the idea that he might go somewhere else never crossed their minds. At which point looking at anyone else stopped. So when he goes elsewhere - who'd have thought he might have had other interest, eh, certainly not us - we're back at square one.
If we get Jansen I'll be happy, but he's been available since January. If he was second or third choice we could have got him in much earlier than now if we'd considered the possibility we might not get Still.
That's succession planning. A constant, ongoing process which there's been no evidence of since February.
