You probably know this already, but just thought I’d remind people that National Rail is great for a quick check on train options, but always best to check the individual providers and their ticket options. Just booked trains to Edinburgh for the Fringe festival (so was expecting it to be pricey) with a 2 together rail card and got Brough to York on Northern’s anytime short return for 50% less then even their own separate tickets for the trains I want and got LNER from York to Edinburgh First Class for a fraction of what National Rail was quoting. Altogether for 2 paid £220. Pricey enough you may say but if I’d booked the same trains at the same time via National Rail it would have been the bargain price of £715 !!!
A rant but youre right Even with the savings Its a disgusting price Only 200 odd miles Uk trains are disgraceful Youll have a great time though
To be fair I don't think the price I've paid is ridiculous, although that's probably just because I'm used to being ripped off! I'll do my best to make sure I get some money back through the medium of the free booze LNER have on longer journeys Been before during Fringe and had a cracking time so I'm looking forward to it.
Makes my £11.20 return to Driffield on thursday to visit Skerne Wetlands look a bargain in comparision.
It certainly is, if you travel often by train it saves you lots.Even if you only use it once it saves you what it cost you. For those who don’t qualify if you usually travel with the same A.N.Other then it’s worth investing in the 2 together railcard.
And that nicely demonstrates how absolutely ****ed up 'our' UK rail system is. How about designing a national rail system that actually puts customers and simplicity first?. No? Stupid thinking.
I'm not sure if it still works, but when traveling north of the border I have booked the Scotch part of the journey through Scotrail, as they're subsidised and a lot cheaper, even though you're on the same train.
So months away from 75, nice of them to celebrate C Day for you. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Over 60. £30 a year (£70 for 3 years). Save 1/3 on listed price. So buy a ticket over £90 and it's paid for itself. There are some restrictions though but they're mainly for travel exclusively within the London area.
I often work in Edinburgh and just drive. Pain in the arse driving to train station, then 2 trains, then the tram to the office. **** that!
As you're the last King of Scotland a State Carriage seems more suited. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
