I would recommend an app called Trainpal. Almost the same as Trainline but slightly cheaper as there's no extra admin charges and there's discount codes available so a few extra quid off here and there.
The wife of the guy who I travel to city with got them 2 x Rugby to Edinburgh return tickets for £60 . Thought that was pretty good.
Maybe I had a glance and it still looked a little more expensive, but decided to do it myself anyway to be safe
I hate that expression ‘nobrainer’ because things rarely are but in this case it really is a nobrainer, assuming you travel by train now and again.
3 year card cost me £60 or £70 as I recall.... already had my money back on fares to London Kings Cross.... (save about 33%) .. plus as Den said above shop around... theres a good thing on Trainline.com that checks things like Den spoke about splitting tickets... Sorry, im repeating what others have already posted..
The ticket splitting is good but, if I’ve understood it correctly, you can reserve a seat for the first leg but not for subsequent ones, so you might have to move seats halfway through.
Nah Book as separate journeys and book seats on each journey (assuming it’s a service with seat allocations)
Obviously only buy it last minute (or any railcard) You don’t need them to buy tickets and say you have one. You only need one before the actual journey, so get it last minute so it last longer

Its a right mess in this country...Earlier this year I got a train from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport...I had a Transpennine ticket and it was a Transpennine train. No problem. However, the guy across the aisle was a Spanish guy. He had a Northern train ticket...The bloke checking the tickets was a right arsehole and a 'jobsworth' and threatened him with a fine and god knows what else...Made him pay the full fare. I felt for the guy. He was just trying to get to the airport to get home. Doubt if the bloke will want to come back here in a hurry.
I always use the website raileasy.co.uk It splits up your tickets but I’ve never found a cheaper site!
Sorry I misunderstood Thought you were talking about singles when you need to change rather than a journey split. I’ve never done that. Although presumably if one seat was available all the way you could book the same seat in splits. Never tried though
Nowhere in particular but in Yorkshire so I can hopefully get some good shots with my camera. I've been using my camera in the garden of the Alms houses i've recently moved to but want to go further afield. I've still got plenty of potential shots left yet of the gardens and the buildings which are all grade 2 listed but the garden is beautiful. I'm very lucky to have got a place here and it's a lot cheaper than my last one in the Old Town.
Think Plum is referring to a split ticket for one train ride - eg you travel from York to Edinburgh but buy two tickets, York to Berwick and Berwick to Edinburgh. Generally I find ticket splitting to be less valuable than it used to be, a number of the obvious loopholes has been closed. And the East Coast line has completely revamped its fares structure, which further reduces split ticket options (I live near the east coast as I guess do most on here).
I'm sure the train companies do single tickets, if they're more than half the cost of a return I'm willing to chip in for any shortfall. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
