I'm hoping we've already moved on and made our move for Maric.

I prefer Maric of the two, but that's because I love all the nerdy tactical and stats stuff.

He's clearly a bigger gamble than Still in terms of experience and Still is the clubs number 1 target, so in that sense it would be good if Still happens.

But in the back of my head now, I'd be expecting him to be at odds with the club at every transfer window or when any Premier League job comes up and it would all be played out in the media.
There is def something about Maric that sounds really exciting so i agree with you. Id want him to bring an experienced no2 or 1st team coach with him

I dont like how Still's team have handled this, he agreed to join us last Sunday - terms, staff n budget all agreed then they hear Lens might be interested so refuse to sign

Im all for people trying to get the best deal for themselves but imo once you give your word you honour it (im probably quite old school in that)

He can't be announced at Lens until Haise is appointed at Nice though.

It has been announced hasn't it, I thought it was all done and a three year deal agreed ...

... I'd better check with l'Équipe <laugh>

Just had a look and it says,

Franck Haise is the new coach of OGC Nice for the next three seasons.

A total agreement was reached between all parties this Friday.

L.T.updated May 31, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.

"After a few hours of hesitation, negotiations between Nice and Lens have just concluded this Friday, for the arrival of Franck Haise on the Nice bench. The latter will commit to the Gym for the next three seasons and will take over from Francesco Farioli, who left for Ajax Amsterdam."

Yeah that’s what I mean, the links are coming from north of the border which makes me think his agent is touting him about
He was linked to the Hibs job so i think it might be to put pressure on them

Appartently when hibs appointed their next manager theyll be paying wages on 5 managers in total!! Still paying money to their last 4 managers

That's been my concern since the start with him (New Head Coach & New Head Coach) and the way this last few days has played out has certainly done nothing to allay those fears.

Sense does not matter to some peoples agenda - Smug seems to be happy with our process of a new head coach

Don't want to speak for anyone but I think it's more a case that we have absolutely no visibility or insight into the process, so while things remain unclear it is pretty hard to definitively criticise anything.

We might yet appoint the right man (several out there) with time to spare before the transfer window and preseason.

Patience.

And then briefed the media to say that it was issues with staffing and investment knowing full well how that would trigger the fan base.

That's the worst part for me, as much as I value honour and integrity. If there's any truth in the Maric rumours then arguably we did the same to him that Still has done to us.

Yeah i get that, we will never know the exact ins n outs

Just want this over so we can all moan/debate about our recruitment

Ah, I missed that. Looking at the time it came in the midst of the post Michael Walker tweet hysteria...

Hard to criticise but in the same breath hard to praise.

My big takeaway from all of this is that the journalists covering SAFC are shockingly bad.

I think it's just happened tbh, not sure as I'm still waking up <laugh>

While I was on there, this Will Still quote popped up.

It made me wonder what Lens fans will make of it ...

"It’s just my place. I want to go home , confided to the coach. I've been abroad all my life and worked all my life in an environment that wasn't quite my own. And I just want to go home. [...] I would work for a Championship team without any problem. What I now understand is how important people are. And how important finding the right place will be to my career. Obviously the Premier League is every manager's ultimate dream [...] But if there is an ambitious Championship club, who wants to work in the right way, to be open and honest about things, and to really try to push to get somewhere, then I would love to do that."

So the PL is his ultimate dream but he'll go to Lens for a bit ... doesn't sound too inspiring.

I agree.

People criticise anyone posting what they've heard but they've generally been ahead of the game.

Those saying Still had been offered a contract were ridiculed, especially after the Lens rumour.

It now seems accepted that Still was interviewed and offered a deal.

I'd go as far as to say it's impossible to praise at this point.

I understand the criticism, it is dragging longer than it should have and that's dragging the negativity of last season into next season. They need some PR wins with the appointment and signings now, quite desperately.

I don't know that they are even journalists. Just people at desks clattering their keyboards and chewing on their telephones like they're teething toys.

Think you’re right press in Scotland are regularly talking about him being given a chance at a bigger club The Jack Ross link also helps pad the story out a bit

Yeah that wouldn’t fill me with confidence if I was a Lens fan.

If we are willing to be a bit more ambitious then we are exactly the type of championship club he is talking about.

I've kept away from this thread and not offered an opinion on whichever name has been touted as our next manager for one simple reason....
Whoever we appoint is a gamble, some more than others apparently...I've no idea.
I decided 879 pages ago to just wait and see who gets the job then cross my fingers and hope he does a cracking job.
Don't see the point in looking for someone to blame for us not getting ' our man' , it looked like we had and he renaged on his agreement..we move on.
Obviously would like to see it done sooner than later but happy to wait and see.

Add the sentence before it for context ;)

"Squad also lacks wide players to provide good service to the forwards. Makes the team a little predictable and lacking in options."

I did, albeit paraphrased and half jokingly. 34% of our entire staff are french vaguely attacking players (I made that up for comic effect also)

The Stephen Robinson link just can’t be true. It makes no sense.

the club don’t leak anything.

so it has to be from Robinson’s end

which makes no sense. It’s in his end’s interest to keep it quiet to avoid fan backlash

so the only thing that makes sense is his agent wanting to get his name out there to English clubs
