It would be interesting for the club to study how Mckenna guided Ipswich after being appointed in 21 to the Premier League in just over 2 seasons. They seemed to have no stars, no parachute payments and the average player wage is around $8000. Also dont thinjk they made any blockbuster player purchases. They must have been doing something right. Its a model that appears to be worth studying.

Don't think it's a model so much as "Got a great manager and everything clicked". It happens but is the exception not the rule. Better off studying Brighton/Brentford/Luton.

I have no idea where you're getting your numbers from. Ipswich had a wage bill of £19m when they went up from L1 and spent something daft like £8m last January too.

They've invested heavily for a few years now and woefully underperformed until McKenna came in.

They've done brilliantly this year but their wage bill has to be around £30m for this season, which would put them on par with Boro. So they've outperformed but it's not like they don't spend money

He is, but is he 10m worth of potential?

    Tommy Conway, 21, 10 goals
    Omari Hutchinson, 20, 10 goals
    Jonathan Rowe, 21, 12 goals
    Jay Stansfield, 21, 12 goals
    Jordan James, 19, 8 goals

Would we be paying £10m for any of those? We'll maybe Hutchinson because he looked class.

Cameron Archer got more goals in less games last year and he's managed to bag a grand total of 4 in the prem and Tom Cannon got the same in less who then got snapped in by Leicester for £7.5m and rewarded them with... 3 goals.

Im not saying that Delap won't become a world beater, but the championship is going to be as if not more competitive next year so 10m is a lot to gamble on if they're still a bit of an unknown entity. I think he's more valuable to us than others and hopefully his experience with us matters when choosing a destination.

Not like Man City need the cash.

Yes lol, most of those players are worth more than 10m.

Cannon has barely played for Leicester and Archer was basically the only good thing in that Sheff Utd side to start the season.

I also can't get my head around people STILL fixating on Delap's goal return as if he's just a poacher who sits in the box waiting for a tap in, and ignore the broader improvements he brings to our attacking play.

They don’t need, need the cash, but they are still going to have to live by FFP, despite whatever has happened in the past.

Maybe I'm just not used to the inflation nowadays then lol

Still think a freddo should be 15p

Still, Cannon barely playing isn't a ringing endorsement- think he's been injured a bit but he's also been on the bench and not getting on the pitch and as far as I can tell Archers not exactly made himself a fan favourite at Sheff.

All I'm saying is I like Delap, praying he stays, but that figure could hopefully put some of the competition off.

Ipswich’s wage bill was about £5 million more than ours at the start of the season They got rid of a load of players preseason and didn’t bring as many back in. Spent £1.5 million of one player, got two for undisclosed fees and some on loan.
I said preseason they were a well run club. In a piece on them on TV yesterday it said they had spent a fortune on the pitch as McKenna had told the board a good pitch was vital to their style of play.

With us needing so many additions we'll probably bring in a couple of bosmans to pad the squad out. This years theres quite a few decent ones from fellow championship clubs:

Defence: Drameh, McNair, Ngakia, Danny McNamara, Di'shon Bernard
    Midfield: Mowatt, Alan Browne
Forward: Willock, Tyrese Campbell, Windass, Sam Gallagher

Maybe not good enough to start week in week out for a promotion chasing side, but would be useful additions to the squad.

Their £19m wage bill was in League One and was massive for League One, it will be much higher for this season.

The three players they bought were about £1.5m each, which was good business, but they brought in other players on big wages. The kid from Man United’s on £50-60k a week (though they won’t be paying all of it) and Tuzanebe will be on a fair wedge.

The money they’ve spent has obviously paid off, but they’ve certainly not done it on the cheap (unless you compare them to the clubs still getting Premier League money).

Well assuming the average wage is 8k a week and a squad of 25 then the yearly wage bill would be around 21 million. And as OLM said that is probably for last season. He said it was 19 million.

It said it was £19 million at start of the season. We were £15 million.

I wonder if Rowe at Norwich has had a rise. I said to my Norwich supporting acquaintance he had impressed me early in the season,He said he was one of their lowest paid players on around £2,000 a week whilst Ben Gibson, who he considers vastly overpaid and not worth the money was on the thick end of £40,000 a week.

This lot appear to have had it wrong at start of season then. If they are right then they must be shelling out double what they were at the start of the season.

Their total wage bill (wages, taxes and pension payments) in League One was £19.8m, it’s in their accounts.

Other than the owners of Ipswich, nobody has any idea what this season’s wage bill is, until the accounts come out next March.

3 players that I think we should sign permanently if possible, Delap & Ohio, along with Hannibal from Man Utd.
When I saw him for Birmingham a few years ago, he looked decent. No idea what he’s been like this season on loan abroad, but if he’s still doing alright, then I’d assume that teams would be watching him.

Assuming Greaves is going then £10 mill of that on Delap and half again on a replacement would seem sensible. Willock on a free would also seem good business.

Be interesting to see what comes out then. Same as City. Any figures bandied about on here for our costs and wages must be pure speculation.
