Whilst hilarious on paper, it also wouldn't surprise me if he did it on purpose for some bizarre reason.
Same here. Perhaps to show that it isn’t a big deal and you just go back and get it and vote later. Not quite so easy for everyone. And ignoring those who don’t have the ID in the first place
Agreed. It suits Boris to have the public believe this bumbling scatty persona. He went to Eton and Oxford for ****s sake, he's anything but stupid. As for the reason? Because it benefits him somehow, Boris does nothing if its not for his benefit and his alone.
Going to Eton doesn’t make him clever. It means his family is rich, that’s all. Presumably he had to do some work at Oxford, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if he paid someone else to do most of it.
You beat me to it People often mistake posh for clever and working class for stupid It’s a con we all need to see through Maybe Boris is a thoughtless idiot because he’s never needed to be anything else?
Any thoughts the abominable Johnson has are in furthering his interests and ambitions to the detriment of all around him and the country at large.
I am sure I have seen that his grade at Oxford was just determined by his tutor (or whatever they call them at Oxford) and not based on any kind of major final assessment or piece of work
Completely agreed with all the above, particularly the thought that posh doesn't equal smart, and working class doesn't equal stupid. Anything but. But Boris isn't thick. It would be a serious underestimation to think that.
You don't get to the position(s) he got without being clever. Yeah your parents buy your grades at Eton (looking at you Harry!) Oxford a different kettle of fish altogether. Boris is very intelligent.
Where is the evidence for Boris Johnson’s intelligence? It’s well documented that during the Covid crisis, he had great difficulty understanding what Chris Whitty and co were trying to tell him.
This explains partygate, another law he introduced but thought it didn't apply to him. The bumbling persona is partly created to give a sort of genial, likeable character. It has obviously worked in the past because people did like him but as our county's leader I found it embarrassing. He may be smart but there is an element of truth in this characterisation. When he was first made PM, people who knew him said that he quite often left problems to work themselves out. That showed itself in his slow reaction to the Covid outbreak. I'm quite prepared to believe he didn't even think about taking ID to the polling station.
Intelligence is a funny thing. We are all super intelligent just in different ways. Who is more intelligent, the person who can carve a sculpture that is admired for centuries, or a person who gets a first at Oxford in Law. I know who will be the 'wealthier' (again is a wealthier life someone who is rich, or someone who is happy and surrounded by lovely people), but which is more intelligent. Wealth doesn't = clever. Intelligence IMO is always tied with academia, not practical stuff.
I agree and it's also quite often said that people with extensive knowledge are "very intelligent" but that's not entirely true either. People with knowledge alone have just been able to remember what they have learned. Intelligent people are those who use that knowledge wisely.
Howard Gardner wrote about this. Multiple intelligence theory it's called. There's several different types of intelligence: spatial, linguistic, etc
It's that generalisation that causes me problems I know a lot of people who are clever at some stuff and less so at others Maybe Boris is clever at climbing greasy poles, but not so clever at doing stuff when he's up there Also Eton & Oxford are clearly going to provide better training than say Thornhill Comprehensive in some regards for anyone One of those is self-confidence, a great quality in some and a path to arrogance and a lack of reflection in others It may not enhance your understanding of the real world people live in either
