There's a trend on twitter of people posting specific graphs depicting two specific stats across two dimensions, and labeling each quadrant with what it means to be in that quadrant. People seem to think this is a really insightful form of analysis but it's unscientific. The labels they write on are just one teenage geek's interpretation of what those stats mean, but because it's on a snazzy-looking graph people lap it up and accept it means what the person producing it says it does. It's these graphs that are always being shared as the ones that "prove" Allsop is among the worst keepers in the league, and usually the stat relates to a combination of xG and goals conceded. That's way too simplistic to draw factual conclusions about how good a goalkeeper is, even if shot-stopping was the only concern, which it isn't. The fact that he's been picked whenever available and never dropped is a better indicator of form than looking at a stat you don't understand but assuming it's conclusive because it's presented on a smart graph.

Allsop obviously isn't one of those keepers who saves your team every week with his amazing saves. But he isn't this liability making howlers every week either. He has a fanbase who've never liked him and have frothed themselves up to the point that they see almost every simple goal that goes in the corner as a massive howler by him. He spilled one shot at Swansea several months ago which was bad, and he's had a couple of passing out related gaffs in the meantime. That's about it really in terms of errors that aren't massively overblown because of a pre-existing agenda. He's also played a big part in transforming our possession game which you can't ignore. Maybe one day we'll have a keeper who saves shots like Myhill and can also play out like Allsop.

How about something radical like having a good shot stopping keeper who is good with his hands, who can pass (even throw it if he want) to one of the defencive line who should be good with their feet to kick the ball upfield.

You said Allsop was statistically the worst in the division, which suggests he's right about you at least.

I just had a look at the WhoScored player ratings for the Championship, I've no idea how they calculate them, but there's 371 players listed (only players with something like 24 appearances are included, so no Carvalho, Omur, Giles etc). Slater looks to be rather hard done by...

3. Philogene
10. Greaves
77. Delap
104. Jones
123. Morton
168. Coyle
174. Tufan
203. Seri
233. Allsop
259. Traore
288. McLoughlin
295. Slater
310. Connolly
329. Christie

Twine was at 127 and Longman at 269.

He’s just not a good goalkeeper if you value a goalkeeper that prevents goals and makes saves, it doesn’t have to be a big debate, the stats clearly show it

If you want a goalkeeper that is not very good at that but good at passing then he’s your man
