Whether 'made for life' or not depends on personal choices. But you could argue or own expectations. Kevin Stuart got 'made for life' between his youth contract at Liverpool and his championship contract with us. He's a millionaire landlord these days and football is secondary.

An average premier league contract would be life changing to Greaves and his family. Same with Jaden, or anyone other young player in our squad.

He definitely got a better end of the deal than the club did.

Does it really matter whether a PL contract, in practice, does set a player up for life in all or the majority of cases? The point here was that if you're on an EFL salary and are offered a PL one, it's a huge, life-changing increase and you'd almost always be mad not to take it. If some or even many players end up wasting some or all of that in reality, I don't think that really affects the point at all. You'd still be mad not to take it, and what you then do with it is a separate issue.

I don't think a player is mad not to take it at the first time of asking and the oft used justification of 'well what if he has a career ending injury' never eventuates. A player like Greaves isn't missing out on that life changing money whether he goes this summer or next.

I don't see the benefit for Greaves of staying for another year. He's statistically the best centre-half in a very strong Championship season and his eyes should be on a place in the England WC squad in 2 years time.

I just don't know what more the Championship can offer him, he's simply outgrown it and he's PL ready.

That's true as well, the only thing I'd say he could gain from another season is captaining his boyhood club into the PL, which might mean something to him.

If he gets a 5 year contract at 30k a week, that’s enough to retire off. Even after tax it’s substantially more than the average wage would get over a working life time, probably more than double.

Problem is most spend it all on lavish lifestyles in the process.

Maybe not always but right now Greaves’ stock is as high as it could be.
He really should be playing in the PL next season and if not for us then I’d, sadly, wave him off with thanks and genuinely hope he is playing for England soon enough.

If…huge if obviously…we could scrape up then I think we’d offer him enough to stay and assure him he could move on if we came back down.

To be honest he is at a point where, even should we go up, there’s still a fair chance we could have a fight to keep him. But agreed you would like to think he would still be here if we’re a premier league club.

Is it possible to be set for life
On a yearly wage of 40k?

    Since we are discussing economics

I'm sure Coventry commentary last night said along the lines of that Greaves wasn't really known by anybody and they should get him in the summer

It doesn’t “set” you for life though, reasonable standard of living but that’s it

If your mortgage is already paid off, as you say a reasonable standard of living.
(my wife and I are retired and get less than this between us, she hasnt got her old age pension yet which will boost our income)
