How is that famous quote though any different from LR saying he won't change the way we play, we just need to be more clinical etc... it's saying exactly the same. I suppose it all depends what side of the fence you sit on re LR as to whether you will see it.. but I'd say there's no real difference, it's just 2 ( grant at the time and LR now ) inexperienced managers showing their inexperience by making very similar points just using different words and phrases. Yes grant team was moving in the opposite direction to LRs but they where both blinkered ( in public ) to our obvious faults, although admittedly LR has been much more open recently. Re him stopping communicating, I agree on it, but I just think again that at the time was his personality and his way of dealing with the pressure, just as imo LR at times talks way to much....it's just how they feel comfortable.
Grant was too until he had the rug pulled… He should’ve kept us up, but us going down was actually of benefit to us IMO as if we’d stayed up we’d have been bottom the whole of the season after! You could see the weight lifted off Grant within days after the takeover was announced he was a completely different guy! If Rosenior had us top 10 with Marcus Maddison, Wilks and James Scott as his wide options. With Tafazolli, Angus MacDonald at centre back and a midfield of Dan Batty, Honeyman and Lopes …
I’m not? Rosenior is clearly more modern but McCann has shown better at this level with much less resources. We were in the playoff race with him too until Bowen and Grosicki went!
I don’t see a huge familiarity between Rosenior and McCann - for a large part because Roseniors successes and failures this season have come in waves. We’ve had periods when we’ve been good and periods when we’ve been frustrating. That probably goes a large way to why I don’t actually think the relationships between manager/press/fans are overly comparable. The second half of the relegation season was watching the same team try the same things and it NEVER working. At least with Rosenior it does work sometimes, it’s the consistency that is the problem and ultimately I think we’ll agree that will be what he ends up being judged on next season. Equally, I accept McCann would be judged more favourably if he’d got us promoted with fans in the ground. But I can’t agree with you that Rosenior hasn’t changed things. We’ve played with inverted full backs, a flat midfield 3, a false 9, 2 false 9s, a striker, 2 strikers all in the course of the season. We’ve evolved but I agree that consistency will need to come. We clearly are at different points to how we view Rosenior at the moment and that’s fine. Fingers crossed for 3 points and a more attacking performance tomorrow.
I appreciate that, but I do think McCann could have done more to just stop the rot. I think the snowball effect started and he couldn’t find a way out, a different manager might have saved us (even if it was by the skin of our teeth)
its actually a joke anyone is comparing rosie to mcann like ive been anti rosie too at times, but this is a ****ing joke
McCann’s delusion/tactical flexibility had almost flipped on its head by the time the takeover was all but confirmed. Like I said earlier I hope he gets to say his piece on what it was like under Ehab as I think he got an unfair ride second half of that season. George Long in goal, Tafazolli, Angus Mac, Jordy, Kinglsey and Elder McKenzie to make up defensive options. Kev Stewart, Irvine, Honeyman (when he was ****e), Dan Batty. Eaves Magennis Bowler Wilks Scott and Maddison. The squad wouldn’t have won league 1 let alone win games in the championship! He should’ve done better but I’m not sure he was allowed to!
No ones comparing them, as it’s pointless doing that anyway, Rosie has been given everything he wants, McCann got what he could get
Not sure anyone is saying grant is/was better are they? The only comparison I made was with drew re his comments about grants interviews, nothing to do with who is the better manager / coach
I think the one thing that really didn't help grant and it's never really taken into account, is just how badly he was sold down the river by certain players completely downing tools in the season we went down. Just as I hope the truth comes out re how he had to work under ehab, I'd love the full extent and truth in what some of those players did and said comes out one day. That being said though, we should have still never in a million years gone down and that rests at grants door, just as him getting us back up in the way he did lands at him as well
I think you are understating that squad slightly. Until lockdown we could field: Long, Lichaj, Burke, Jordy, Elder, Honeyman, Da Silva, Irvine, Wilks, Macgennis/Eaves, Bowler. Not stellar - but it shouldn’t have lost as many as it did. The squad was pulled apart when it resumed though, fair enough.
While you're right to an extent, I think Bowen and Grosicki were levels above what we have at the moment in terms of experience and quality, and as evidenced when they left, they carried us in the majority of games that season.
It's a discussion that's been retreaded plenty of times but loyalty goes both ways and I'm not sure those players were shown much of it. At the age that group were it's no coincidence that particular cohort weren't prepared to essentially play for free with no guarantee of support if they were badly injured. Not really worth rehashing though, but McCann was screwed from both sides in that situation which I think we can agree on.
