Yeah spot on for me. Certainly the most important decision of KLDs time at the club. There is a tremendous platform with our academy producing some tremendous young talent. We have a basis of a first team, but with some obvious holes. Likely to bring in serious money, or at least have the option to. The coaching team next season can hopefully start and create a real momentum again, and take us back into the top 6 and challenging again. I am sure the right pick can do that, whoever they may be.
I think I kind of agree and disagree at the same time.
Yes we need a coach who can achieve what you say but not sure we need somebody older or that they need to have the experience that you elude to as that experience may well lead us to appoint a tried and tested manager who may well bring stability but also bring 20 years of this is how it has always been done attitude.
I said earlier for some we may as well go and get Bruce back as he will tick all the boxes but will he help revolutionise our club and be able to point us in the direction of football or what we think football will be in the next 10 years and beyond.
I don't think we need a young Coach but I do think we need a Coach who is forward thinking and can relate to our young squad, can align themselves with the club and the fanbase and embrace new ideas and implement change across the whole of the club from nutrition to physio and medical, from commercial to practical. They don't need to do everything but they do need to make sure we have the right people (best in class) doing the right jobs at the right time.
I think the club have a chance to appoint somebody who will grow with the club and will help push us toward a brighter future keeping us 1 step ahead of the opposition, they got it wrong with MB, TM was great initially but seemed to lose his hunger for it at the start of this season (maybe his health had something to do with that ??) but this time they really need to get it right and that is not going to be easy.
- Tried and tested safe pair of hands. (Heckingbottam) type.
- Up and coming coach with good values but less experience.(Will Still) type.
- Out of the box wild card no experience but big personality. (Jermaine Defoe) type
- Coach with good experience and good records but not necessarily in this country (Marek Papszun) type
I guess these are the 3 or 4 different types we could be looking at out of names linked or mentioned and I am sure you will all be able to add more detail but for me I think number 2 or number 4 appeal as I think we need something new. Just my opinion of course but I think we have trodden down the same path so many times that I think we as a club need a good shake up, if it works genius if it doesn't back to the drawing board.
For what it is worth I think MB was kind of half and half of what we needed. A decent coach but not an enigmatic personality, he ticked a lot of boxes but not the big boxes and I think that was his problem and ours he was just quite simply not the right fit.
