I would rather we take a risk on an exciting coach. Every appointment is a risk but i want an exciting manager that gets us playing good football but who can tactically change a game (hard to get both at our level).

Be great to get an exciting coach who can grow with us rather than the standard championship appointment (an experienced british manager)

I am seeing fewer players in that position who you can rely on to win the ball in the air, score thumping headers etc. I'm sure you know the type I mean. That's really what I'm referring to.

It's probably because more sides are preferring a possession-based game so you're not smashing it up to Centre Forward expecting him to win knock downs, or slinging so many crosses in. You don't get the Nat Lofthouse, even Niall Quinn types.

It would be great, I agree but I feel at the moment we need that steady experienced hand. Teach these young lads how to win ugly or to dig in when things aren't going well

Stewart is a 9, my point is that he was not a 9 when we bought him and that is what we need to do again. Be innovative in the market and find players that fit the system, even if they aren't proven currently in the league or in the position.

Same with players like Watkins, yes he's a 9 now but he wasn't beforehand but he is one in Villas system.

There's no point signing a striker that doesn't fit what we do. You like Hardie for example, but I see a player that completes 6 passes per game on 60% accuracy and ask myself would he fit a side which is trying to dominate the ball while the opposition sit deep which renders his running in behind abilty ineffective.

I'd have thought that people would be more familiar with the concept of a CF who doesn't score hatfuls. It was a regular talking point when Emile Heskey was at his peak.

I get that, no reason one of the foreign coaches that have been linked cant do that tho

Experience can be a good n bad thing.

I just want someone with fresh ideas who can develop our players while playing an exciting brand of football. The big thing id love the manager to have is an ability to change the game eithet due to his subs or tactics - i just dont see Heckingbottom being that manager

    I have so say I don't want a 'plodder' who's a younger version of Mowbray/Bruce/Wilder.

Heck seems so dour and middle aged imo.

With so many foreign players, with modern outlooks, I don't want another 'get stuck in' type of manager.

That's a small pond we could be fishing in, those types of coaches are very rare imo.

I would say it's crucial we play an exciting brand of football, like we did last year for periods. Quick passing and movement, real attacks flair to get people excited

Def mate, not sure what it is but i really like Danny Rohl. Love what hes done since going in to Wednesday - has them playing high energy football, despite having poor players. Hes also got a cracking coaching cv having been at leipzig, bayern n the german national team

I loved last season, we all did, due to the football that was played

Can I add to that, that we also need a coach that instills the give everything for the shirt, never gives up attitude in the players.

Attacking football and leaving everything on the pitch will keep a huge portion of the fan base happy even if results don't always go our way

"PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM may only be able to bring in ONE member of backroom staff if he takes the Sunderland job."

He doesn't actually have a backroom staff, he's unemployed <laugh>

Are we supposed to sack all our coaches so he can bring his unemployed mate in plus Jack Lester, who's currently part of a terrible Sheff Utd set up, and more Yorkshire pals. If we'd allowed Beale to get rid of everyone, and bring his mates in, we'd now have Danny Collins and Frankie managing the team.

Wow Chris Powell, did not know he was there. Wonder how Rohl knows him?

If we go for a coach and they ask for 3/4 staff, which is by no means unreasonable and definitely allows us to keep Dodds around, and we say no it's a disgrace.

Side note, it's good to see that it's not just our local papers who have awful websites.

Or he’d still be here and we’d be performing much better than we are now because he’s not having to work with clowns…

Every decent manager brings his own coaching staff in. Anyone (bar a few on here who love to go against the grain) can see that if you’re bringing in a new manager it’s generally because the previous manager wasn’t up to scratch. With that comes a coaching team who aren’t up to scratch. Changing the head honcho and leaving everything/everyone else in place to undermine him is just stupidity, which is why nobody does it. Obviously if we do it we’ll be doing it the right way though..
