Belgium is a strange one. The standard of the leagues aren't great but the coaching and the systems over there have always been very good.

Isn't there a connection between Cercle Brugge and AS Monaco?
Same owner, Russian, Sartori is married to his daughter?
Or did I just imagine that?
Oh bugga, I'm going to start another conspiracy theory aren't I :emoticon-0140-rofl:

I guess what I really mean is that I don't necessarily want a coach who has proven himself at some other club to come in but maybe a coach who is ready to prove himself with us. All coaches have to start somewhere or need their big break somewhere, that could be at any club. Pep was given a chance by Barcelona, Klopp was cutting his teeth with Mainz and got a promotion and a relegation in the Bundesliga league before he got his chance at Dortmund and then Liverpool. Really what I am saying is we need to get the right fit for us as a club but also for the head coach. I am more interested in their drive and ambition for themselves and for the club than the name they have created. Some of the best managers have failed at various clubs and then just seem to find the one that fits them at any given moment in time. It may not always last but it can sometimes be great if the chemistry is right.
Would I love a big name manager/coach ? Yeah I think I would enjoy the attention on my club, if we went for a relatively unknown I think that may be even more interesting. The problem with the Beale appointment was that on this occasion I think the initial response from the fans was probably correct in that we knew enough about him to be underwhelmed which proved to be true.
The club need to find the right mix of leadership along with strength in their decision making coupled with a good tactical knowledge and great people skills (not just with players but with the employees of the club and the media and also the worldwide fanbase as the head coach is in effect the tip of the spear) He will need to be string and maybe a little arrogant at times but also show honour and integrity along with it.
This is a wish list which will be hard to find so I do not envy the people looking for this coach as at the moment I do not think there are many out there who will fully tick all boxes but there may well be some gems hidden across Europe or the world who we as Sunderland fans do not know and the guy in the link earlier from Poland may well be one of them and in truth we will never know until somebody takes a chance on him. The fact he was almost appointed manager of Brighton tells me he is highly thought of.

IMHO, Will Still ain't the answer.
We need a hard faced SOAB like Alex Neil, but not Alex Neil.
A tactical genius, a mans man, and above all a bloke who can work with a arrogant team leader who is never wrong, and who I wouldn't trust at all.
But finally a coach who can work with a spy in the camp, who play them at their own game, a bloke who can identify targets with S Harvey that fit the team, not the model

I like the look of Still personally. Like the Polish guy too if it's an abundance of testosterone you're looking for.

I think there is a difference between commanding respect and demanding it, we need the former and not the latter, a coach who commands respect from staff and players because of his leadership qualities and his man management skills, we do not need some pumped up arsehole who is living off a reputation gained by being the flat track bully. I have no problem with arrogance but to be arrogant you have to have something to be arrogant about like Eric Cantona he was the most arrogant of footballers but extremely talented with it which made him almost legendary at times. Arrogance is not a bad commodity as it often leads to confidence in people as long as actions back it up. It is not so good when the arrogance is not real but a face put on for others to see as the real confidence behind it does not exist and it is a house built of cards. I guess that is the worry for us.

    Information is king
Better to know something that you might not like than for it to come and smack you in the face when you least expect it.

Players often use coaches to get information to the manager surreptitiously.

It's part of the coaches job to let the manager know about any cliques, grudges, bullying, concerns, etc, imo. Any player who believes things said in the dressing room, or training ground, won't get back to the manager is a bit naive imo.

    ****ing hell,Bob,another go at KS.
So,we need a head coach who is hard faced, suspicious of the management team, who wants to work against them and will want to work with SH,without dof involvement, thus compromising SH position.
Sounds like the 14 year old schoolgirl playground to me.

"'We take full accountability' - Sunderland chief admits Michael Beale error
Kristjaan Speakman has admitted that Sunderland appointing Michael Beale as head coach did not work and said the club take the blame for that."

we don’t need someone hard faced or a ‘man’s man’ whatever that means, though, we need someone capable of bringing the best out of what we have and someone that can help us progress.

Will Still might not be the answer, but the work he’s done so far would suggest he deserves to be in the conversation.

We get that you have some strange hatred of KS, but we don't need a hard faced manager at all.
