I think the way Putin will play it will be to try to galvanise public support by saying "look we're being attacked from all sides".
I doubt he'll try and link IS to Ukraine, but he'll use it to say back me bcos I need to protect you from everyone who's out to get us (his main purpose of course will be to use that to continue his invasion of Ukraine).

I've not watched the news since early morning so not up to date with things. My thoughts are it would be ridiculous to link IS to Ukraine. For one thing, U.S. intelligence would blow it right out of the water bcos they warned him well in advance.
What Putin could get away with though is saying Ukraine are fascists and IS are fascist terrorists. Mother Russia is under threat from fascists, we must stay strong blah blah bollox.
