Still, Cooper, Solskjaer, and Parker (not necessarily in that order) would be the only ones I'd be considering on that list. Hopefully, the club will be casting the net a bit wider than those names though.

Paying compo doesn't always make things any better, many on the forums wanted Schumacher.

"Plymouth Live understands that Stoke will pay Argyle a substantial sum of close to seven figures as compensation for the departure of Schumacher and that his salary with the Potters will be in excess of £1 million a year."

Stoke are currently 2 points off relegation, lower than when he arrived.

I feel it’s going to be someone left field who’s employed, otherwise I think they’d be here now given the run we’ve been on

I get where you are coming from but I think Alex Neil helped with his recruitment model, Stoke are going to need a clear out, we just need a couple of key players

Good point there. Any head coach appointment is a risk and may or may not succeed - just like signing a player.

The odds are high that a head coach will need paying off at some point so, to me, it makes sound financial sense not to pay a chunk of money initially on compensation. I know that doing this seems like a lack of ambition on the face of it.

They do seem to massively rate him, dunno what it is I’m just not sold on him, maybe I just don’t know enough about him

I can't make my mind up about him. Watched a couple of those interviews with him and watched Reims a couple of times when they've been on telly. I think there are probably better coaches out there. He seems a bit of an introvert and that might not endear him to people. I think it might be seen as a bit of PR thing because he's been talked about so much. Some people might see it as ambitious to get this really young whizkid coach.

Leeds are currently top of the Championship with a manager who was unemployed after being sacked by his previous club. I'd bet some who are criticising the club, in advance, for appointing an unemployed manager would take Keane ...

... as I said Stoke have a history of taking managers, from other clubs, but although it looks ambitious can be a disaster.

Probably more difficult than it’s ever been to be a successful coach, you get about 6 months to get it right or your gone and the scrutiny is off the charts, don’t envy anyone doing it

Arsene Wenger was sacked by Monaco. Alex Ferguson was sacked by St Mirren. Being sacked doesn't necessarily mean that a manager won't go on to be successful elsewhere.

    Quite right mate.

It also makes Sunderland's desire to have a coach, rather than a 'manager' all the more sensible imo.
Some managers will want the same lengthy contracts for their half dozen staff/mates and their club will want compensation. If Rooney, Beale, whoever arrive with an entourage the cost and disruption is enormous if they fail.

Cost, these days, is becoming a big concern but spending seems to be what people want to see, fair enough.

I know it looks like ambition but there are some big ambitious clubs in L1 wondering how they'll pay their staff.

    Not for me.

He's said outright that he relied upon Beale for coaching.

That doesn't feel like a clever appointment.

Definitely more of a manager than a head coach.

This. He is one of the premiere young coaches in European football, bigger clubs than Sunderland are looking at him but are perhaps waiting to see what he does in his next role, the way our club is set up is for the head coach to slot into a specific role, everything seems to fit.

I dont care if we pay comp or not, its about getting the right man whether they are in a job or not

My choice would still be Cooper, im intrigued by Still so would have him 2nd on my list and maybe Ole as 3rd choice (not totally convinced by him but meant to be really good on the training ground with youngsters and players work hard for him)

Financially they are laughing though. Work six months, get paid off for another 12. Rinse. Repeat.

I think its Will Still they want, who I like. Watched reims quite a bit and while they dont play great football (while compared to how we played last season), he seems to be spot on tactically - both setting his team up n then tweaking things during the game

His teams are well organised and always look really fit which are the 1st 2 things id want him to make us

I have a contact in french football so ive asked him if hes heard anything in relation to us n still
