This had to happen now really. Cousins is aging. Hunter is starting to age now. I think next season may be tough for a variety of reasons but long term this will put us in a much better place.
Would’ve been with Cousins. At least we have hope now, until the Vikings piss all over it in a year or so
Vikings eyeing Sam Darnold. Sigh. I guess it would be ok for a one year stop gap, allowing the draft pick to develop.
Yeah always thought Darnold was the likely stop gap. As I said before Kwesi doesn’t like to go into the draft with any holes on the team. If they went in with just Dobbs/Mullens then they basically had to do something at QB, like trade up if Williams/Maye/Daniel’s went 1-2-3. If they get a Darnold/Brissett option then they aren’t tied in to anything and could look at the 2nd round for their QB or maybe even the 3rd round if they trade back a bit and get some more picks
Well that 100% confirms Hunter is gone. Van Ginkel played for Flores before so was always linked with the Vikings, I don’t know much about him
It does make sense with a DC like Flores to spend on the defensive side. Maybe, just maybe, starting to have a little faith in where the FO is taking this team.
Yeah the main argument I can get with the Vikings trading up is that it’s a very good situation for a QB to come into. You have two solid tackles in O’Neil and Darrisaw, and 3 good receiving targets in JJ, Addison and Hockenson. So as it goes for a top QB in a class it doesn’t get much better for them to succeed. Let Flores sign who he wants on D in free agency and they could actually have a decent roster by like 2026 which is what they should be targeting.
Looking at the draft order and who needs a QB. Obviously pending anyone moving up/down: 1. Bears 2. Commanders 3. Patriots All likely to take QB's - likely Williams, Maye and Daniels (not necessarily in that order). 4. Cardinals 5. Chargers Definitely won't be drafting a QB 6 Giants 7. Titans Possible they take a QB if they really like someone still on the board but unlikely. 8. Falcons 9. Bears 10. Jets No chance a QB goes here. 11. Vikings - I'm hoping that JJ McCarthy is still available. I don't think there's any need to trade up unless one of the top 3 QB's don't go in the top 3 picks.
McCarthy is an interesting one. Some of the draft “experts” (the draft is a complete lottery where most people are wrong 90% of the time) think he will go top 10 to someone like the Giants and others don’t think he’s worth being drafted in the first 2 rounds at all. The main concern seems to be his arm strength because at Michigan he wasn’t asked to throw the ball much due to their elite running game. People now seem to think he can throw, just wasn’t asked to. The main concern for the Vikings is the Broncos. They will want a QB just as much as the Vikings so if they trade up ahead of the Vikings then the Vikings will miss out. If I had to guess what will happen is that will sign Brissett and then move up for Maye and have him sit for a year behind Brissett
He’s not a pass rushing linebacker though so different to Greenard and Van Ginkel. Still good to see that for the early part of free agency it seems like they’ve just let Flores have free reign
If Cousins sees out his contract with the Falcons he will be the second highest earner ever behind Rodgers Not bad for a player who has won one playoff game in his 12 year career

Darnold to the Vikings, 1 year, 10mill deal. The plan has to be draft a QB, then have him as back up initially and if he develops quicker than expected he can take over from Darnold mid season.
