You don’t know much so that makes sense.

I'm not saying we're right or wrong. I'm simply saying that the Ai summary was spookily close to what a few of us have been saying pretty much all along. To deny that is a bit daft.

The thing that I don’t understand your stance on this is that as a City fan, over the years occasionally we nurtured a young player who is highly rated and we have had the privilege of watching him develop, knowing inevitably that he will move on. Unfortunately, over the years it has been very occasional.
For me, it’s exactly the same with Rosenior, ex player, almost from Hull and highly rated from pundits who expect him to be successful. Why would a City fan not be desperate for him to succeed?

Hang on, it can’t be that intelligent, no mention of needing a defensive midfielder.

I asked Microsoft copilot to predict today’s score and it suggested 2-2.

Ill be asking it to predict the lottery numbers next week

Yes, but I think he has his head up his own arse a bit, and fawning over him just strokes his gif complex ego.

That makes it sound like I think he’s a prick, I don’t, I just think he’s far too stubborn and fixated on possession based football at all costs.

A perfectly good polar opposite scenario to compare him to in that regard is his former boss Steve Bruce. Now he really was a prick, but credit where it’s due particularly that 12/13 team he came in and set about making the most out of what he’d got, rather than making what he’d got fit his way or the highway. Remember back then nobody at all was playing 5 at the back outside of Italy, it was very left field for English football at the time but it perfectly suited that squad we had with an aging but absolute man mountain Faye central to that defence and suited the attacking wing backs and strong central midfield to the ground.

    Imagine Rosey managing that squad.

Isn’t that the case with most footballers? They’re fawned upon from about 8 years old by everyone. Just Rosenior is more articulate than most?
According to some, the five at the back was to make sure Alex got a game?

I 100% absolutely want him to succeed, I've never said I don't. Saying I don't think he's experienced enough yet to take us to the next level isn't me saying I don't want him to succeed.

I don’t think you understand what you’re talking about or what Ai is to be honest, and I don’t think anyone said it was doing computational analytics however that is exactly what it’s doing.

The Ai in this case takes all the stats you would find about a football team and then feeds it into a chat bot so you can have a conversation with it. It essentially does the work of a sports scientist or football analyst.

Previously a manager would ask the football analyst to provide him with areas that the team is struggling with, the analyst would then have to manually take the numbers/stats and build a picture for the manager to see using graphs, charts, etc

Now it’s as easy as saying to the Ai

“What areas do Hull City rank lowest and highest”

“What specific defensive action are Hull City good at and what area needs to be improved?”

The Ai will then use all the data it’s been trained on and provide an answer within seconds, you can then carry on digging deeper and keep asking questions to gain a better understanding and context.

One day I’m sure managers will even be able to ask how to fix certain problems. Understand that Ai is trained on huge amounts of data, it will have every stat on every team, every formation, tactic, and result.

It’s basically a virtual football analyst that every single football club in the world employs teams of, except this one is quicker and better than any human.

Don’t be surprised when football clubs start replacing humans with this kind of thing. I think Ai in football will be as revolutionary as when football first started taking stats and analysis seriously.

A manager will ask its Ai assistant

“Analyse our next opponent, what are their biggest weaknesses and how do we beat them”’

I wonder why teams bother sending scouts to do opposition analysis in that case.

It will take a few years, Ai has only just exploded properly but yeah scouting is another one

You could ask Ai to analyse 1000’s of hours of games and ask which players stand out relating to the specific characteristics you’re looking for.

Obviously there’s always going to be humans involved but it will become a huge tool in football if it’s allowed

Might also be a bit of skepticism from clubs until the work bears fruit. Some will always trust their own eyes over a computer program.

Exactly, we still hear stories of clubs being suspicious of football analysis/sports science in the early days now look at it

This company is already partnered with Chelsea, Burnley and the majority of MLS clubs, this one is more of a tool than the chat gpt style but shows it’s starting to happen - https://www.ai.io/

Personally I’d rather watch him develop at City for those years and enjoy the journey. I’m in no rush to get back to the Premier League, it’s incredibly boring for a team like ours.

Watching a young manager, who has a passion for our club learn on the job is more interesting to me as a football fan than bringing in foreign manager and getting promoted quickly.

There’s two things about this squad that people forget, the first is that most are here because they want to play for LR and like the way we play, the second is that they’re all here because they weren’t cutting it at their current club, so whilst they may be talented they’re far from the finished article.

I wonder if it will suggest...

(In that computerised voice we associate with Stephen Hawkins)

"Get into them, **** them up"

Barring some AI 'Laws'. An AI may not suggest injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. An AI must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. An AI must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law...

    Exactly this.

I’m not blind to the flaws. I think they’re being ironed out, but more slowly than I’d like and with mistakes along the way so I can see why people on here get frustrated with some of our play.

But the media and people within the game are excited about Rosenior for a reason. He probably will be better in a few years time, but there’s also a reason that we don’t currently have Robbo charging up the left, big Harry in the middle and Bowen driving us forward.

We’re still a club in transition, with a Championship budget constrained a bit by FFP with no parachute payments to top it up and we’re not going to get, or certainly not keep, staff at the very top of their game either on or off the pitch yet.

I’m hoping for us to get to the playoffs this year, though I couldn’t see us winning them. Then I don’t think a concerted push for the automatic spots next year is unrealistic. After that we’ll see whether Ulker funds something special, but if not I’d expect Rosey to go onwards and upwards.

For now though I’m enjoying the ride with a young manager learning on the job and hoping he realises his massive potential here.

Just remember Ai can’t manage personalities , motivation , anger , complacency ambition , desires , depression - think you need a god human for that . unless it can say ‘get on with it !’

I certainly wouldn't claim to "understand AI" as a blanket statement since it's such a deep and complex field, but I'm a software engineer; I have a better understanding than the average person. And from that standpoint, it is pretty clear to me that, understandably perhaps, there's been an explosion in people referring to almost any sort of software as 'AI' since AI hit the mainstream.

I'm only going by what you've said about this tool, but it sounds fairly simple. Like you said, people already pull this data in charts and graphs and clubs will have been using such information for years. You can already go on WhoScored or other similar sites and sort teams by all of these metrics, or go to a specific team or player and see how they rank vs average team in each metric. If it's just pulling these things together in a convenient way, I'd just call that software.
