I can't say that International football gets my blood flowing anymore, rugby and cricket do, but the football scene just isn't what it used to be. That's not me looking through rose tinted glasses, far from it, there just isn't any good International football teams out there anymore.

But when news of Terry Venables passing came through and I started to read what a great life he lead, the teams he ran, managed and played for it invariably brought memories flooding back to the summer of '96 and quiet possibly the best England football team to watch and support since 1966.

Now, that team of '66 is beyond tv replays for me, but the '96 team, well that had real superstars, some I supported, some I loathed, but that team was one hell of a team and ole El Tel was the one and only reason that it was...!!

The more you read about him the more you can see that this man was revered by his peers, players, fans and clubs with each one of them benefitting from his skill as a man, tactician, player, coach and a being a damn good bloke.

Another one who will be missed by many, it's just a shame that he didn't get that one thing he really deserved for his very entertaining England team, the tag of being the 1996 Euro Winners...

RIP El Tel...<rose><rose>
As a QPR player and manager Venables is much missed. The side he crafted in the early '80s from very little was a great team to watch and especially support. They were dreadfully unlucky not to win the '82 FA Cup and back in the 1st Division in the '82/'83 they could have been near the top side if they'd had more strength in depth. He had great plans for taking over totally at QPR and making them into a big side (with plans way ahead of their time) when suddenly he was lured away to Barcelona.
At Loftus Road Terry will always be be very much admired for the football his sides played.
Best England Manager since 1966 RIP

Just when the standard joke against the 'Johnny-foreigner' within our football leagues, saying, 'Yes, but could he handle a cold wet windy night at Stoke'...?? One of the latest NFL games has just been played in minus -20 deg C...!!! Now that'll test yer...:emoticon-0101-sadsm :emoticon-0145-shake :emoticon-0127-lipss

Also, to show the cold in all it's glory, Kansas Head Coach Andy Reid's moustache has made the all the news after pictures of his top lip tash completely frozen...!!

You can keep your cold in Stoke, and I'll raise you Kansas City in January...!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I had tears in my eyes watching this - just a beautiful story and for all the cynicism and corporate greed surrounding premier league football it just made me appreciate that they took the time to make this poor guy so happy. Well done everyone involved.

BTW the YouTube title is German but the video is in English

Bloody hell, if a sparring partner can do that, I'm sure Usyk could

Its going to be an interesting final day of the 2nd test between India and England tomorrow. England chasing an unlikely 399 for victory have swashbuckled their way to 67-1 at the close of play today. If they can have a good session before lunch tomorrow it will make things very interesting indeed. Something to watch in "home office" tomorrow morning ;)

I can’t see them pulling it off but I wrote them off after the 1st innings in the 1st Test. A win in this test would be the greatest win since……last week

That good first session didn’t happen - 6 wickets down at lunch and only Ben Stokes can save us now ……

India 174-6 - that century of Root’s is looking priceless now. Hopefully the tail won’t wag too much …..

Frustrating that England couldn’t close out India’s innings quickly and allowed them to get to 307. Feels like a let off.

Very sad to read that Stan Bowles has passed away.
As a kid playing football, there weren't many of us that didn't want to be pretend we were him.
A great footballer and entertainer.

RIP Stan, and thanks for the memories

Magical days at Loftus Road. We lost Rodney Marsh but gained Stan Bowles as his replacement. We were blessed.

Bowles mystified defences, dancing past defenders as if they were trees. He could be so funny. When QPR played Sunderland in their first game after they had won the FA Cup Bowles took a bet that he'd knock the cup over, as Sunderland had it displayed on a table near the half-way line.

QPR should have won the 1st Division Championship of '75/76.They were easily the best side in the country. Those who saw them then will never forget how football can be the most entertaining of games..

I havn't quite sussed out if this Baz Ball thing of us attacking at all costs despite being in serious do-do is a calculated risk that in the past has brought huge success and works...?? Or that this crazy kamikaze batting it is covering up the fact that we really are a poor Test Cricketing side...?? :emoticon-0127-lipss :emoticon-0138-think
