He came from Rochdale with a lack of knowledge
He studied management at Bradford College
That's where I (pause), caught his eye
He told me that he was a manager
I said: `In that case you'd better come and manage us'
    He said: `Fine'
And then, in three seasons' time
He said: `I want to take you to the Vauxhall Conference
I want to do whatever Halifax do
I want to sign lots of crap old players
I want to watch this club slide out of view
And hoof, and hoof and hoof
    Because
    There's nothing left to doooooooooo'

Ay ay aye McKechnie is better than Yashin
    Waggy is better than Eusebio
And (insert name of that match’s opponents) are in for a thrashing…

And the usual 10 minutes before the end ' it's time for you to run' followed by an emptying of the South Stand with all the rum lads marching down North Road to meet and greet the away fans in The North Stand car park

Did you ever hear the old Nancy Sinatra classic 'These boots are made for walking'...With a twist.

As in, 'These boots are made for walking and that's just what they'll do,
One of these days these boots are gonna kick **** out of you.

Heard it a few times during the early 70's...Naughty Boys!!!

I remember going to Wednesday by coach a couple of times in the early 70's. Not sure what year the first one was but, I was sat back on the coach after the match when a brick comes through the window. Fortunately it was the window in front of my seat. Second occasion a couple of lads on our coach jump off to chase some of theirs who were setting about a city lad at the bottom of the park. What a laugh watching them run all the way down the hill only for the law to turn up and chase them all the way back up and on to the coach.

    Happy days :emoticon-0138-think

All I want is a walking stick
Hatchet, boots and a building brick
A Wednesday fan to boot and kick
    Oh, wouldn’t it be lovely

We used to chip in and pay for Gordon Moreton (RIP) to come on our away trips with us in those days as a bit of protection. He was big unit but he wasnt black, I do know the person you remember and he's also no longer with us. Remember Mr Nesbitt well, he was vicious, and he'd nick you or wack you across the legs with his truncheon, or head if no-one was watching, for no reason at all. Never saw him do it to away fans though.
The WHU tie got a mention in despatches in one of Cass Pennants books. I don't recall the fence being up then but it probably was. I remember them arriving by train direct to the ground and trying to get into Kempton that way, but as you say the old memory does play tricks and it was over 50 years ago..

Thought Gordon was mixed race ? he was a tall guy so a I i he’d just come out of prison , offered me out in Centre Bar - wasn’t a pleasant end to the evening , but you do your best LOL and I was with a bird. Think he was bored !
Could the other guy have been Neil Ofore maybe ? Memory’s going but these songs were quality - promised a lot didnt they ?

We'll see you both outside.....always a good pisstake that one.
Or ( and this is a golden oldie)..I hear the sound of distant bums, over there, over there, and If they come.......
I particularly like Peters and Lee 'Welcome Home' which was often sang by the Goolies.
Remember Liverpool coming for a pre season friendly and they stood in the North stand singing 'You get your education from the Kop... ( repeat)...'
They were probably right too as we did copy our songs from other clubs. Even in those days we used to long for a club song of our own, I've even heard 'old faithfull' sang at City.
Perhaps the only original one we have is the mauled by the tigers chant.
Some of you might remember a little movement to adopt the Watersons 'Three Day Millionaire' a few years back, even to having meetings in pubs in town pre season to iron out the words......it never caught on.
And one City fan (BL) who I think has stepped down from his job of composing City songs, ( he compared the stage in the Crystal Rooms at Wembley, superby, i might add) really tried to get off the ground a song for Mark Hately, based on a Scottish song, 'You take the high road...' or something very similiar. i suggest to City at the time that BL should be on the payroll because he was a one man songmaister and worth his weight in gold for getting the crowds going in those days when there wasn't a lot of us to get going.
    Happy days eh?
    UTT.

Are you referring to John O ? The fence was up when we played West Ham.
