He wasn't getting minutes ahead of Connolly or Delap so he wouldn't have been on the pitch. His strike rate at the start of the season was fantastic but for the rest of the season it was poor and he offers absolutely nothing else. It's not like he doesn't miss big chances either. There's this weird perception over the player Oscar is and the player people think he is but then I see people criticising Coyle and Alfie when we lose and they've been top for the last yearish. Greaves used to get criticised too
Not quite what I said... Yes because we don't really have many over rated players. I've been saying he's poor for ages now, City have since binned him off, Metz have too and he's gone back to South America in his prime so more ringing endorsements of his quality.
TBF that doesn't mean he's ****, it just means our current gaffer doesn't think he fits his style of play
He's a 'goalscorer', we're tight on money compared to parachute clubs, you've really got to not be a fan to ship him out and it was 100% the right call. Getting £5m (hopefully) for him in the end is fantastic business and almost as good as conning Brentford into spending £15m guaranteed on KLP.
I never said it was or wasn't the right call, just that calling him massively overrated was bollox, which it is....if we can get a high earner off the books for a profit that the manager doesn't think fits his way of playing. Then that's definitely good business
He was one of the most criticised players in our side last season. Despite playing injured half the season and not having any service for majority of the season either. He wasn’t great but I always feel you ignore important context around his time when he was a main stay in the side
Agree. He's a very good footballer. Same as Tetteh. Just both plagued by injuries and seems as though deemed not to fit our new playing style. Wrong place, wrong time. Don't see the need to be negative about players like that.
You seem to have whipped yourself up into some weird frenzy over Oscar. He scored important goals for us last season. He's been sold because he was a sellable asset that other sides were interested in and we needed help for FFP, not because he was ****.
Óscar was a good player for the role we signed him for which was a goal poacher. But he’s not a pressing forward or particularly mobile.
I’m not Oscar’s biggest fan but I’d be amazed if Ohio does anything Oscar can’t. Again without knowing the details I bet we are paying towards both players wages and actually ability wise no better off….if that makes sense
Ohio is at least closer to Delap’s style in the sense that he runs the channels and goes in behind. Oscar is more Sharp
Ultimately style aside, let’s see how many goals he gets. That’s what strikers are judged on…..it won’t be many
