We haven’t improved our centre forward position for a few years now. It’s the main area of the team that makes a huge difference, the lads we brought in last summer Arent anywhere near ready. I’m big on sticking up for the club but this is getting silly, I do 100% think we would pay the fee, it’s just blatant we won’t pay the wage. It bit us on the arse last year as well as the centre half’s, let’s hope it doesn’t cost us again.

Southend Utd have just been taken over. Went along with a mate to a 'meet the consortium' night last week. The main thing the consortium blokes wanted to talk about (other than getting back in the EFL)? Sustainability. They all know that's how successful clubs are going to have to be run in the future.

We're being run properly. All this talk of not spending is nonsense. We'll spend when we've got the money.

Glad they were saved cos it was very, very close to the end for them.

Reactions: The Norton Cat
Whether people agree with the strategy or not is irrelevant - we have one and we're sticking to it. Speakman and KLD are playing long term games.

Loads of Sunderland fans seem to have a "weekend millionaire" attitude. If we go for a "proven" striker who doesn't do great and we're in this league again, there will be plenty just asking for another striker again.

No thought to squad building, no thought to development, no thought to financial security.

All things considered, this transfer window is one of our least important in a long time in my opinion.
Folk need to be patient. If we'd bought experience the likes of Neil, Ballard and Clarke wouldn't have got the game time or development and they are now worth a combined 50-60m which is incredible business by club. Think the summer we might invest a bit more heavily.

If we were clever about it they would. 5/6 young talented players and a few experienced outfielders to compliment them and make things tick.
